I got this one to replace my older i-Inc. monitor. It really is an improvement. Rich colors, really good contrast. I calibrated it (crudely, by using software called MCW). Really nice after calibration. One thing I did not like at all is how much side-illumination shows up. I guess those LEDs do need to be bright enough, but I never thought they would be THIS noticeable. It shows as a veil of dark gray around the perimeter of the screen. And when whatever on the screen is dark enough you will see it. Sometimes barely noticeable, sometimes annoyingly obvious. And one other thing. The power supply is a separate brick - like in the laptop. Plan on locating it behind the monitor, etc. Otherwise - a very nice monitor, no dead pixels, no other issues.

I just received this monitor last night, while yes it does its job as being a HD monitor, I couldn't ignore the white background lights emanating from around the edges as the previous reviewer mentioned. On the other hand, one can't really complain for the price but I could've forked out a little bit more for a higher quality one. The only time this screen doesn't bother me is during the day or when you I'm in a lit room, but once you turn off the lights they ARE that noticeable. It all depends what you use this screen for, if for the office, no problem. However, if you plan on using this to watch movies or play games or anything else that would require to turn off the lights it would be a nuisance to some people.

For those who just need an extra monitor for viewing space who don't care about the rest, then you can't beat the price for a monitor of this type. The colors are gorgeous, bright, and no dead pixels upon start up. Compared to other monitors, unless you're really really picky about the colors, it holds its own well, at least in my opinion.

The picture of the item shows an HDMI port, but the actual item doesn't have one. Other than having to buy a DVI to HDMI adapter, I had no other issues.

I managed to get my monitor for $90, and I think it's absolutely great, especially compared to my old 14 inch CRT monitor. Here's a list of pros and cons.

Pros:
-Relatively cheap
-Large 20 inch viewing area
-1600x900 high resolution
-Very bright!
-Super thin and only weighs a few pounds
-Very energy efficient compared to a CRT and even an LCD monitor. Only uses about 13 watts.
-Beautiful color
-White colors are actually white unlike my LCD monitors' dull yellow whites
-The screen tilts vertically

Cons:
-No labels on OSD control buttons makes it hard to change brightness, contrast, etc
-Power button on bottom can be difficult to press
-Glossy black edges, base, and neck scratch very easily
-Appears to be edge-lit, not back-lit. Results in a glow around the edges, which is only noticeable in a dark room, or while the monitor is displaying a mostly black screen.
-Not 1080x1920 resoltion. 1600x900 is still good, and this screen is probably to small to display 1080p well anyway, so not a big problem. Pay $30 more for a 21+ inch monitor if you want full HD.
Edit 12/6/13: Screen originally would not tilt, but I finally figured out why. If you take apart the stand there is a metal bracket with two nuts. The monitor came with these way too tight. I loosened them up a bit so they could barely move, and now the screen tilts vertically. I imagine that a lot of these came with the mount too tight, but since no manual came with this, I and others assumed the monitor was just built like that.

Overall, this is a great budget monitor. Unless you think the bright edges will annoy you, get this, and you won't be disappointed.

Edit 3/31/13: I've changed my review to 5 stars because I've had it for quite a while now and it's still great. I've never noticed the bright edges, and I'm loving it.

I ordered this monitor wondering if this was what I was looking for in a monitor when it finally arrived I was delighted. It was just like it shows ultra thin and very bright. I especially like the power button, you cant see it in the images of the product but its actually a bright blue led located on the bottom right corner of the screen. The glossy finish is very nice and I haven't noticed a bit of scratching so far. I would definitely suggest this monitor if your getting it as an eyefinity set up, especially since it comes with vesa 100x100 mounting pattern if I'm not mistaken which would be very good. Also the weight of the monitor is unbelievable, super light which is very good if you plan on mounting it on an arm or something of a similar type. And finally the amazing price normally monitors like this will cost you an arm a leg and maybe another, but for its price I would definitely suggest buying the Acer S201HL bd 20" monitor.

For the typical computer user who spends time online, exchanging e-mail and even office work this monitor is a great value. I had a bit of a 'Doh' moment after reading previous reviews that mentioned LED light leakage around the "edges." I looked all around the outside of the frame trying to find any hint of what they were talking about without seeing a speck of light. Only later, when booting my (Windows) machine in a darkened room did I see what they were talking about. On a black screen there's a 'halo' effect that extends out roughly half an inch (13 mm)from the frame on the screen. I can see where it might be distracting to someone who's gaming with a very dark background. In most daily use the halo is invisible, certainly not bothersome.

Controls are easy to figure out (don't bother with the instruction manual) and the widescreen is a joy using Windows 7 with its side-to-side docking ability. The wider screen also provides extra real estate for those who enjoy having a TV window in one corner while working.

If don't do a lot of work with a very dark screen background, you only need a monitor that tilts (no vertical adjustment) and you don't need USB ports or speakers built into your monitor, the Acer 201HL is likely to be a good fit.
