The Acer Aspire TM254ELCI is a reasonably priced notebook for small-office/home-office computing needs. It features a fast 2.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4, built-in 802.11b wireless connectivity, a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive, 40 GB hard drive, and 512 MB of installed RAM (upgradeable to 2.0 GB).

The Basics

• Hard Drive: The 40 GB IDE hard drive is on the small side compared to other notebooks. However, it does offer a decent enough capacity for storing documents and productivity software for road warriors--but not enough for much multimedia storage.
• Processor: The 2.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor offers enough speed for today's typical computing workload, and it's near the top of the range for this processor. It has a decently fast front-side bus (FSB) of 400 MHz and a 512 KB L2 cache.
• Memory: The installed 512 MB of RAM (PC-2700 DDR, 333 MHz, 2 x 256 MB) is sufficient for starting out, but you'll want to add more memory power (it's expandable to 2.0 GB).
• CD/DVD Drive: This notebook comes with a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive. It features 24x read, 8x write, and 8x rewrite speeds for CDs.
• Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a touchpad with four-way scroll key and an 84-key keyboard, inverted T cursor layout, embedded numeric keypad, and international language support. It also has two programmable easy launch keys.

Sound and Graphics
The 852GME chipset's integrated video/graphics card delivers intense, realistic 3D graphics with sharp images with Intel Extreme Graphics 2 technology. The 15-inch XGA TFT active matrix LCD has a native 1024 x 768 pixel display. It also has an sound card that's integrated into the main board, and offers built-in stereo speakers.
