This is an initial review of this product. The features that attracted me to it are 4GB RAM, a 320GB HDD, its lightweight (5.3 lb), and a 15.6 in. screen. The external brushed aluminum finish on this machine gives it a classy, upscale look. I was somewhat leery about the glossy screen but after using it I found its level of reflectivity to be acceptable...of course that could be different for other users. I believe what helps with this Acer unit is that the screen's bezel is matte finished which tones down the overall mirror effect. In addition the brushed aluminum finish of the keyboard surround also helps. While on the subject of the keyboard I have two negatives: the keys are glossy and very "slippery" and they are very flat. These two attributes make typing a bit difficult. After several hours, however, I had less difficulty with it and mistyping. If the keys were "cupped" I think that their "slipperiness" would be less noticeable.

The LED backlit LCD screen is very crisp and bright which gives it a visual "snappiness" that I like. Even with the power-saving features enabled the screen clarity is excellent. My unit arrived with no dead pixels.

I'm not much of a touch pad fan but I found this one to be an improvement over others I've used. It requires a very light touch and the multi-gesture feature seems to work reasonably well. (I still prefer using a mouse.)

Several CD's were played to test the speakers. While they weren't of "boom box" quality they did provide a sense of surround sound. Given their physical size, I felt their output was of acceptable quality. I've read reviews which criticized the low volume produced even when controls were set at 100%. Granted, you won't get rock concert volume, but the sound was pleasant.

Overall, at this point, I'm pleased with my purchase. As time permits, I'll update this review.

Today it's July 29, and I believe this is a solid computer. Today, the battery lasted 7,5 hours. But this is of course without using the DVD drive to watch movies. I turned it at 8 am and now it's 3.30 PM and have another half an hour or so battery life. This is my first Acer. Until now I've had Apple, Sony, and Toshiba. Acer did not make it regret my purchase --- so far. And so far, I up my rating from 4, to 5 star.

Here is my original review: This is my first day with this laptop, so cannot give it a 5 star rating. It charged fully quickly, also, battery lasted almost 7 hours -- well, over 6,5, and then I plugged it in. Set-up was a breeze, screen is good, keyboard is not bad at all, weight is good, I actually do have to sit for long stretches and it did not feel heavy plus it remained cool in my lap. Overall, for first day, I am pleased with the purchase, let's hope I will keep this favorable opinion! So far, yes, I would recommend this laptop.

I was looking far a laptop that would give me a quicker response than my Compaq with 1GB of ram. I was told that Windows 7 needed at least a 3GB to operate correctly and this laptop does it all. It also has the Crystal eye camera built in and my old DELL and Compaq had problems receiving the house wireless signal from one end of the house to the other. This computer not only received the signal strong but continues to operate at real-time speed. I am impressed with the long battery life . Its light weight and i take it everywhere now .

I liked this computer for the reasons listed by the other reviewers. Unfortunately, like one of the above reviewers, I had problems. This machine would erratically crash either by powering down, freezing up or the dreaded blue screen of death. This computer even crashed a few times while just going into sleep mode! Of course, I made sure that the updated Windows 7 software was in place, checked for viruses and the like with no apparent solution to the crashing. An IT friend looked it over and felt that it was a hardware issue and I should return it to Amazon. However, I received this computer just before a vacation and I tolerated this occasional defect for a few weeks more and now Amazon says that since 25 days have elapsed, I can not return it and they MIGHT give me a partial refund. This stinks! So lesson learned, Amazon does not stand behind its products and if you have problems IMMEDIATELY return an item to avoid their capricious return deadlines. I think you only get 85% back even if you return it immediately. Hopefully, Acer can help with this problem because Amazon is worse than useless...

Hard drive constantly crashes.Product support jerked me around every way imaginable way until warranty expired. I read on line that locking up a major problem. avoid Acer at all costs

So far this computer has served me well. The wifi works well, programs run fast. This is my first time with an Acer computer, the battery life seems decent. The computer is very light and stylish. I have to get used to the click buttons though, you cant click in the middle, you have to click to the left or right. After 5 years with a middle clicker, it will take some adjusting to. But for the price I think this computer is a good deal, I do not game on it so I cant say how well it does in that area, but for general surfing the web, and downloading MP3s, I have no complaints.

1 minor thing is sometimes the eject function does not work, so I have to restart the computer to eject a cd. Something to worry about? Hmmm.

I like it but had problems setting it up. It gave the blue scrren of death on me a few times befor it got it to wrok right. It has been ok after getting updates for Windows 7. Unlike what a another person wrote it comes with dvd/cd burning software and a nice selection of pre-installed software. But if the blue screen happens again I will return it for a replacement.
