I needed a good, reliable laptop for college with a decent price/performance ratio, and I feel this model fulfills those needs perfectly. I'll outline piece by piece the pros and cons, with a TL;DR at the end.

First Impressions: I received my laptop earlier than Amazon had originally predicted(It was out of stock for a month or so), and it was solidly packaged and secured. The color in the picture is a bit innacurate; i find that the actual blue of the notebook is more of a grey-blue than the radiant blue it shows. It's not ugly by any means, and I actually very much like it, it just threw me off a bit when i first saw it. The notebook feels solidly built, but not more-so than the average laptop. The bloatware installed was a hassle, not enough so to deter me from recommending it, as bloatware is a commonality nowadays. If you buy this book, make sure you go to the control panel, select uninstall programs, and go to town on everything that doesn't sound important (e.g. Nook Reader for PC, New York Times for PC)

Screen: I was a little hesitant about getting a non-1080p screen, as it's outdated tech, but this screen delivers. On full brightness it is blinding, and on low to mid brightness it's still easy to see. It has a blueish tint to it that i find quite easy on the eyes. I had my mom test the laptop for me, and she's been complaining about the screen quality by comparison on her vaio laptop ever since. I'm glad i didn't shell out the extra money for a 1080 full HD screen, as I feel now it would have been an unnecessary cost.

Keyboard/trackpad: The touchpad gets the job done. I don't much care for them personally, and i generally use mouses instead, but this one seems alright. There is a little scrollbar on the right side of the pad for.. well...

First, the blue color is really sweet! It looks and feels like a Mac Book Air. Keyboard is just like a Mac (not lighted though) Screen is beautiful. It's fast and the battery lasts forever!! It's really lightweight, sound is amazing. I'm a new Acer Fan!! This is a sweet laptop. A similar Mac Book Air would have cost me $2200. This was $768 on Amazon and if you sign up as a Student, you get a free Xbox!! Acer and Amazon rock! I'm going to check out the new Acer tablet too.

I bought this computer for my wife's birth day on the 29th and so far she is happy with it other than the fact that no Word processing software is pre-installed. I'm a student so I bought Microsoft Office for 80 bucks now she's juiced! Even though the computer is rated a 4.5 for the aero performance, it still purrs by much of the games I own on steam. Doom 3 looks ridiculously good on this laptop and some of the blender models chug when being rendered but they are rendered within 10 minutes. She's into video and photo editing so I installed Lightroom and this little beast loads over 50 GBs of raw pictures in seconds. This is a great processing speed compared to my tower's Sempron running at 2.10GHZ. The 6GB of ram couldn't be more appreciated especially since ITunes has to run constantly while she's surfing the net. The hard drive space is great leaving some space for movies and programs on this thing. There is also a neat usb 3.0 on the left front corner as well as the Ethernet connector. The disk drive sits aft of the 3 standard usb connections on the right. It's a bit recessed making unwanted disk ejection hard. The hinges seem really good on this thing, they are metal capped and open the screen to about 160 degrees. Although it says aluminum, the top cover is some thin plastic and already scratched easily, not huge but annoying. I'm used to the mouse pad being in the center on "Gaming" laptops but this thing has a full keyboard with grippy recessed keys. There is some neat architecture around the keys namely the space between them and the look of the Dolby speakers. It looks as though I can eat a pretzel and not get anything under the keys. The only thing I don't like is the power button is on the left uppermost corner and it can easily turn the computer off as well as the latch less design; even though the screen doesn't really open when I turn it over and shake it. If I didn't like modding my computer I would think this thing is a desktop replacement.

What I love about this laptop:
- Core i5... probably not the best/fastest but has enough power to let me do the things I need to do: video editing and image processing.
- 6GB of RAM... more than enough for Win 7 and the applications that I run
- long battery life... at least for now. I have not hit the 8 hours battery life it claims to have but definitely it's more than 5 hours.
- sleak design... a lot thinner than the other laptops I have
- bright display... and at 15.6", the display is big enough for me not to need (but still want) another monitor to extend my desktop to.
- spacious keyboard... it even has numeric keys
- 64-bit Win 7... now this really came as a pleasant surprise. I thought I was only getting a 32-bit version but it came with a 64-bit instead.

In summary, this laptop doesn't only look good but also performs very well. I recommend this product.

I originally had a Gateway FX 17in laptop before i had this Acer 5830tg-6402, the gateway was a gaming laptop that could handle Crysis on the highest setting.

So why did i go from that to this, well it only had a 2 hour battery life vs this Acer with 9-6 hrs of battery life depending on what you are doing.

The processor on this Acer can handle HD video much much better than my old laptop, to much thanks to the Sandy Bridges i5, I do video editing and with this Acer there is no choppiness with the preview video on Sony Vegas software.

Another reason i got this was for the video card, so i can do some gaming like Battlefield 2, counter strike, Minecraft, and in the future Star Wars the Old Republic. i got my girlfriend to buy this Acer so she can play her Sims 3 game with no problem cause her old one couldn't run it.
When playing games make sure you go into the Nvidia settings and change it to use Nvidia settings or it will use the Intel graphics card which is not as good as the Nvidia card. And when you are done switch it back so it saves battery life.

Construction of the Acer is much better than my old gateway, much lighter and thinner thanks to its LED display. plus to me it doesnt feel like its going to break when i hold it and carry it around
The keyboard takes some time getting used to because of its Chiclets design much like the Macbook Pros have, and the Addition of a full Number pad adds to the value.

Features, the Acer comes with bloat ware but that can be deleted BUT don't delete the launch Manager because it controls the the Wifi and Bluetooth on/off, which is a minus because there is no Physical button for them.
The F3-F8 keys provide some cool functions such as putting your computer on sleep and turn your track pad on and off

so overall its a very nice computer that i would recommend to anyone looking for a new affordable laptop right now.
