Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Small and comfortably lightweight yet packed with upscale amenities and fast enough for most typical notebook applications, Acer's TravelMate TM800LCi Notebook is designed for those who need a complete mobile computing solution at a cost-effective price point.

Measuring a mere 13 by 10.7 by 1.1 inches and tipping the scales at just 5.7 pounds with CD-RW/DVD drive installed, the TravelMate TM800LCi is decidedly less cumbersome than typical notebooks. Featuring Intel's innovative new Centrino technology--which in this case includes a 1.3 GHz Intel Pentium M Centrino-based processor, embedded wireless connectivity and a massive 1 MB of Level 2 cache for enhanced multitasking--and 256 MB RAM, the system is ideal for most mobile users. Acer has even included a robust 64 MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics chipset to assist with video rendering. As such, the unit will not only suffice for standard tasks, but some gaming and graphic design too.

The TravelMate TM800LCi features a generous 40 GB hard disk on which to store your programs and files and a convenient DVD/CD-RW combo drive through which you can burn and listen to audio CDs, archive data, and play your favorite movies. Considering its compact dimensions, the system's ample 15-inch SXGA+ display screen (1400 by 1050 resolution) comes as a pleasant surprise, as does its large 84-key Acer FineTouch keyboard and selection of one-touch controls.

Acer has equipped the TravelMate TM800LCi with a wide array of useful perks, including four high-speed USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire IEEE 1394 port for fast data transfer from devices such as digital camcorders, a versatile 4-in-1 card reader slot, and a hot swappable AcerMedia bay. Communication connectivity options include a high-speed LAN port, a low-speed RJ-11 modem and, last but certainly not least, an Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection at 802.11b.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an excellent machine, July 19, 2003

This review is from: Acer TravelMate 800LCi - Pentium M 1.3 GHz - Centrino - RAM 256 MB - HDD 40 GB - CD-RW / DVD - Mobility Radeon 9000 - WLAN : 802.11b - Win XP Pro - 15" TFT 1400 x 1050 ( SXGA+ ) (Personal Computers)
After a couple of months of searching, I eventually settled on buying a couple of these laptops for my engineers. We have very specfic as well as demanding requirements such as high graphics resolution, lots of RAM, lots of CPU power as well as good connectivity and CD-R/W, etc. This machine gave us this all for a very reasonable cost in a surprising lightwight but relativity robust package.

We upgraded RAM to 1 Gbyte, and a big plus is the fact that we can go higher to 2Gbytes if we want to. The large 16" screen and high resolution (1400x1050) is great, and with an extenral monitor we can go to 1600x1200 which is is essential for us. So far we have had no problems. In fact my engineers who are quite critical due to the extremely demnading nature of their jobs and the software we run, have given this machine very high marks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acer Travelmate TM803XCi, February 6, 2004
This review is from: Acer TravelMate 800LCi - Pentium M 1.3 GHz - Centrino - RAM 256 MB - HDD 40 GB - CD-RW / DVD - Mobility Radeon 9000 - WLAN : 802.11b - Win XP Pro - 15" TFT 1400 x 1050 ( SXGA+ ) (Personal Computers)
I bought this Jan'04 at $1,500.
Tried the wifi with no problems. V. clear screen and keyboard is novel with a 5degree smile. The fan does kick in occasionally (<2% of the time) and is a trifle noisy.
The HOME and END key are an annoyance as is the USB port positioning on the LHS when using a RHS mouse, although this is not a prob. with a cordless device.
Great package and great price.

I bought this laptop seven months ago for $1500(after rebate), and I'm so glad I did. It has an excellent screen and battery life. It's relatively thin and quite(unless fan kicks in < 5% of time). I've also had no technical issues to date, and I've used it at work everyday. Originally I was kind of disappointed about the wireless range, but then I learned that I could download a newer driver off the internet. Now it has a much more reasonable range. I definitely recommend this product.
