So, my advice to any future Acer customer - don't become one.

Every time the electricity is interrupted (as when there is a thunderstorm,) the laptop loses Internet access.

Anyways, most computers allow you to invert the scrolling of the touchpad, but not this computer.

I bought this computer last week as it jumped out as having decent specs with a reasonable price. I have no major complaints thusfar and don't plan on returning it.

However - I wanted to document this in a review since I think it is crazy - in Windows 8, the touchpad works, by default, as a tablet scroll. So, if you scroll using the touchpad (by touching it with two fingers and moving in any direction) then the page will scroll the opposite direction you swipe your fingers - just as if you are swiping the screen. This is, in my opinion, stupid since a touchpad has a different intuitive feel to it than a touchscreen. Anyways, most computers allow you to invert the scrolling of the touchpad, but not this computer. It is annoying if you have two computers, like me, and they behave differently.

I don't think that should stop anyone from buying it - but it is more annoying than you might thing.

I've had an HP and a couple Dell laptops and this one is by far my favorite. It still has many flaws but after adjusting some settings, it's workable.

Pros:
-Looks sleek and slim but does not feel flimsy
-Keyboard buttons press down nicely, it is easy to tell when you've pressed the button which saves a lot of time when typing passwords. I just like how it feels to type on this keyboard.
-Acer does not have nearly as many annoying pop up bubble notifications as HP and Dell
-Widescreen, feels like a desktop
-Touchscreen is not that practical but it works well. It's nice for closing windows, flipping through photos, switching to the start screen, etc. (an on-screen keyboard will pop up when you are editing text on Microsoft word...this gets very annoying if you just wanted to move the cursor...this is a setting I had to change).

Cons:
-Windows 8 is a pain to navigate when you first get it. Spend a few hours going through Windows 8 forums and tweak settings to make Windows 8 work for you. I didn't really like this laptop until after I tweaked a bunch of settings...technologically incapable people may really struggle with this laptop, be aware.
-Updates: Windows 8 likes to update itself every couple of weeks/months. I don't notice much of a difference with these updates however.
-The default browser is Internet Explorer (IE), as with most PC's, but Windows 8 makes it a pain to switch over to another browser like Google Chrome. Again, you will have to change a lot of settings.
-Does not warn you when the battery is low so it shuts off without warning. Luckily, all your work is saved and all you have to do is plug it in and wake it up again.

I have owned this laptop now for nine months and so far it has to be one of the best computers I have ever owned. At first when I got it I was hesitant about the keyboard because the keys and touch pad seemed somewhat awkward to use and touch. After a couple of days though I got used to them and now do not even notice it. Overall this is a great machine that is built to last. The hard metal case is durable and light. I like that the screen is touch sensitive because I can use the screen to move about when I feel like it or use my mouse pad, whichever makes navigation easier. The battery life on this machine is unmatched as it usually last over six hours on one charge and even after being in use for nine months has not decreased at all. The pre installed Windows 8 was updated to Windows 8. 1 for free and makes this machine even better to own. This computer is super fast to start up and load pages. I also like that the unit is quiet and there is no noticeable hum when operating. I bought this PC from Best Buy as an open box item that was clearanced out. I got an amazing deal on it and if I had the opportunity I'd buy another again just to have. This machine lacks an optical drive but these days is not needed. I also like the light up keyboard, which is great for in the evening when I am in bed.

Verified Purchase
I gave 4 stars because it includes Windows 8, which is undesirable and it crashed when trying to play Sims, but really the laptop is great so far for the price. I was told I can add more memory (I hope this is true) to play Sims, so that is what I am going to try to do.

I usually never write reviews even though i always want too but i get so distracted and forget but not today. From reading the reviews here it looks like most are having OS issues. When i first got this laptop i could not stand W8, its crap in my opinion, so i ordered a new SSD swapped out the 500 GB HD (made it into an external drive) and installed Ubuntu 14.04. To be fair i only used W8 for 1 day but regardless the Laptop i bought was refurbished and i have not had any of the issues mentioned below. As far as hardware regular HD are prone to failure but there seems to be an issue with quality control in Acer because when i got my laptop windows was asking me for and activation key. But overall i have had a good experience with this laptop. Everything works but because the hardware is fairly recent the linux kernel is still having issues with the wifi but it has really smoothed out the last couple of updates.

Im going to order a mSATA 256 gb drive to install W7. To any one wanting to buy this laptop i would definitely give them the green light. But i would advise to ditch the HD and get an SSD and definitely ditch W8 and downgrade to W7 or join the world and upgrade to most popular environment in the world Linux. I cant wait for Elementary OS to come out with Freya its a beautiful polished and super fast Linux distro based of ubuntu.
