4.0 out of 5 stars Good monitor, set it right
Some people are complaining about the color and brightness. Guys, the monitor is energy star. Which means that they do something to the monitor to cause it to save energy. However, even though the monitor doesn't show the full specs that come with it, it still has a pretty high contrast ratio and 16 million colors. 3.0 out of 5 stars Ok but not impressed.
Purchased two monitors just before Christmas. One for me and one for my parents in which I was replacing two 17" monitors. First LCD screen for both of us. No dead pixels. No lag when playing racing games. The monitors are OK, but when comparing them to Dell monitors at work, I do not like the colors on the screen. Navigating Acer's menu to tweak the settings is...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good monitor, set it right, September 18, 2009
This review is from: Acer X223WbD 22" Wide 1680 X 1050 Resolution LCD-blk (Personal Computers)
Some people are complaining about the color and brightness. Guys, the monitor is energy star. Which means that they do something to the monitor to cause it to save energy. However, even though the monitor doesn't show the full specs that come with it, it still has a pretty high contrast ratio and 16 million colors. To help these specs show on your monitor, you need to set it within your graphic card's control panel. The contrast ratio on this is 25000:1 and that's is pretty good considering some of the more expensive monitors have 20000:1 contrast. Set your contrast to 70% and increase digital vibrance to the desired amount. The vibrance itself is increasing the sharpness and clairity of the image. It intensifies the color giving that sharpness that people like. I believe the reasons why people are complaining about this monitors picture quality is because they are running the monitor at its manufactured default settings. You have to manually make use of the actual ability of the monitor using your graphics card's control software.

This monitor isn't the best but gives the colors and contrast well. There are monitors out there that produce more image clarity than this one but they cost a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent monitor--works great with Macs, August 20, 2009
By
This review is from: Acer X223WbD 22" Wide 1680 X 1050 Resolution LCD-blk (Personal Computers)
I bought this monitor because my Apple 20-inch Cinema Display had apparently failed. But it turns out when I hooked up the Acer monitor, I saw exactly the same horizontal lines that I saw with my Apple display. What a bummer, but I was glad my Apple display was okay. I replaced my G5 PowerMac with a Mac mini and both monitors worked great. I will be returning the Acer to Amazon, but I would highly recommend it. I was reluctant to try another monitor, as the Apple Cinema Display is about as good as it gets, but this Acer is definitely up to the task.

Update: I bought a second Mac Mini and decided to keep the Acer monitor. Viewing and editing photographs are important uses for me, and the colors and sharpness are great. I used the DVI port for input and have made no adjustments at all. The Mac immediately recognized the Acer, and I did not need to install any drivers or anything else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acer X223WbD-A Great Value!, July 15, 2009
This review is from: Acer X223WbD 22" Wide 1680 X 1050 Resolution LCD-blk (Personal Computers)
I just received this monitor yesterday to replace a Samsung 21.5" that was dying after only 2 years of use.
I tend to over-research these types of purchases and did so with this one. In the end I could care less about speakers, USB hubs, or HDMI ports (I'll not be watching TV on my PC), so the fact that this monitor does not have those things was fine by me.
I ended up paying $164.00 to my door and could not be happier. I installed a new video card with a DVI port and was up and running easily without installing the software that came with monitor.
I have found the colors to be bright and accurate, and text to be vivid, and there were no dead pixels. The on-screen adjustments are easy to navigate after a few minutes of getting used to them. My only knock on the monitor so far is the lack of height adjustment, but that is becoming common place these days, especially in the sub $300 market.
I have looked high and low, and for the money I am not sure you can beat this monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy at $169 with no tax or shipping cost., January 5, 2009

This review is from: Acer X223WbD 22" Wide 1680 X 1050 Resolution LCD-blk (Personal Computers)
Bought the V223 and the X223 the same week for Christmas presents. Both offers at $169.99 with free shipping, sent to the same address. Most appreciated is that Amazon.com disguised the Acer box in one of their own, lowering the chances of porch theft.

Great monitor(s). X Model has a more modern-looking stand than the V223, although it takes up more space in front of the monitor. Tilts easily and stays set. No dead pixels, of course. Extremely easy hook-up. Great and bright and light, with a substantive three-year warranty. I would buy a third if I had a close friend or relative who needed one.

Couldn't be happier!!

(Doesn't happen as often as we would like - :) )

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled with 1080p monitors, March 10, 2010
This review is from: Acer X223WbD 22" Wide 1680 X 1050 Resolution LCD-blk (Personal Computers)
Yeah, this monitor won't give you 1080p, but if you physically compared this screen with a 1080p 22", this monitor has More Screen Real-Estate! What does that mean? Just do the above. For some reason, manufacturers have been making the 1080p screens smaller in height while achieving the 1080p. I dunno why they do that, maybe to get that ratio, but I don't understand why this monitor is bigger than a 1080p 22". Just go to your local store and physically compare the screen heights of this or a non-1080p 22" against a 1080p 22". It's like the new screens had a big chunk of their screens cut off.

So I believe this monitor still has value. For some, they might want the 1080p. But I cannot sacrifice physical screen size to achieve that. Which is why I'll stay with this monitor until something better comes out, or they stop chopping newer screens like I said above.

As for the VGA vs DVI, DVI is simply more crisp and sharp vs VGA. But it doesn't make it look ugly or anything. Just way less sharpness, that's all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value Monitor, February 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer X223WbD 22" Wide 1680 X 1050 Resolution LCD-blk (Personal Computers)
Works well, with one caveat. Don't even bother using the SVGA conector, the picture quality and stability was disappointing. Go with a DVI all digital connection and I think you'll be pretty happy with this monitor.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer X223WbD 22" Wide 1680 X 1050 Resolution LCD-blk (Personal Computers)
This LCD display is great. I liked it because of all the features, like DVI & VGA input. It is very flexible in what aspect ratios it can use, and was very vibrant in color. I have a dual monitor set up, and this Acer really rocks. It was so well liked, that a co-worker 'borrowed' it for an FPGA compiler setup and I have not seen it since!

I have tried all of their modes with no happy results. My video card is an ATI HD4870 so it is a modern card and has current drivers. ATI is well known for great 2D and 3D images so the video card is not the weak link.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good monitor for the money, October 18, 2009
This review is from: Acer X223WbD 22" Wide 1680 X 1050 Resolution LCD-blk (Personal Computers)
I've had this monitor for a while now. It's connected via DVI. I was running it on Windows Vista 64 bit with no issues and now on Windows 7. Both operating systems picked it right up and colors look good. It has fast response time and the base is unobtrusive on my desktop. It would be nice if it had height adjustment, but for the price, you really can't complain. At least you can tilt the screen to a comfortable viewing angle. I am currently looking to get a second one to go with the one I already have.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inital high promise, but ultimately disappointing, June 18, 2011
By
This review is from: Acer X223WbD 22" Wide 1680 X 1050 Resolution LCD-blk (Personal Computers)
I bought one of these in November 2007 from Circuit City. Three factors influenced my decision: attractive price, nice image, and (most importantly) a three-year warranty. I reasoned that, if the manufacturer was prepared to offer a three-year warranty, they must be confident of their product, and I would be unlikely to experience any trouble with it. Unfortunately, it failed after only eight months of use. I contacted Acer, sent it in (at my own expense), and they repaired it and returned it to me. At that point, I still had a favorable opinion of the product and the company. Alas, it failed a second time ten months later. I sent it to them (again, at my own expense), and again they repaired it and returned it to me. Now, my opinion of the product was significantly lowered, but my opinion of the company remained reasonably favorable, even though I had twice been without the use of my computer for several weeks during the time they had the monitor for repair, and while it was in transit, to and from the repair facility, and even though I was out a significant amount of money for return shipping charges. Now, in June 2011, it has failed again, barely six months beyond its warranty coverage, and I guess I am S.O.L. In the future I will not be purchasing any products bearing the Acer name.
