5.0 out of 5 stars Quite the monitor
Wow! This is an excellent monitor overall, let alone for the price. Acer appears to have set a new standard.

Great picture, settings can be adjusted easily (I prefer cool), plug and play.

I recommend this monitor and I am glad I got the 23" size, even if I back up from the desk to view it. Works great!

Maybe the stand could have been...

THIS HAS BEEN TOTAL NIGHTMARE. I started to have problems w/ my monitor about 2 months ago. There were vertical lines on the screen. I called and tried the tests that the service Tec told me. They did not work. I would like you to know that I know a little about PCs, I've built 3 so far. Anyway I emailed them and was told that I had a 3 year warranty and I needed to register it. I did so and requested info to send it out for repair. After about 10 emails telling me that I was NOT registered I finally found there was a different place to register. It was Not very clear that I needed to register in two different places. I finally got the shipping address and sent it to Temple TX. I received it back 8 days later, there was no return address, the box was different and no info inside ether. I call again and was told they never received it. I confirmed the address and sent again and requested a tracking number this time. After 11 day's I called again to check on it and was told AGAIN that they had not received it. I explained that I had a tracking number and it was signed for but this person kept telling me they did not receive it. I asked for the number to the office in Texas and was told there was no number. I then went on line and found the number; I then called and faxed you there. I finally received a call and was told AGAIN that they did not know where my monitor was. So far I'm out almost $60 in shipping and don't have a monitor! Today (9/11/09) I received a call telling me that my monitor was FOUND! . Finally I get a call telling me it was damaged and not covered under warranty. it would cost more to repair than to get a new one and I know other than having the line on the screen there was nothing wrong with it, I'm even using the old monitor with no prob's. Also I don't feel that I should have to pay to ship something that is under warranty I told them to stick it in an uncomfortable place. I'm out the shipping and now a monitor. I'll never buy Acer again!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware Repair Shipping Policy - And Customer Support Horrendous, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Acer X233H bid 23-Inch LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
If I could give this product zero stars I would.

I bought this from Amazon, via TigerDirect in April '09. I had gift coupons to use and the price was good, and I thought if I had any problems Amazon, being the company they are, would be supportive if anything went wrong; however this was a mistake on my part, because it went through TigerDirect, and their return policy was 30 days, after which you had to deal with the manufacturer directly - Acer.

After a few weeks of happy ownership, the display freaked out - colors were completely distorted, and white lines were appearing on the display. I contacted Acer, they made me ship it back on my own dime (on a six week old monitor, let's not forget). I received the monitor two weeks later and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I had a WTH moment, plugged it in, it worked fine.

I used the monitor for two more weeks and the problem came back again. I emailed their customer support, the person suggested I try a few things. It worked. Another week went by and the problem happened again.

Since the problem was intermittent, it took a while trying various things to see if I was doing anything to cause the problem. In the end, I couldn't figure out any rhyme or reason for the problem, other than a component was failing somewhere. I tried four different computers (two desktops, two laptops) and four OS's (XP, Vista, Ubuntu, OSX). Even without a computer plugged in, it shows the corruption.

When I contacted Acer support again, I found that the support people weren't properly reading or understanding my emails. On two occasions they thought I was complaining about a laptop or a computer. Everyone I spoke to was Indian, so it seems there was a language problem. After several emails and voice calls, I was informed that I had to pay for shipping *every time* the monitor had to go back, even if it's because of Acer's fault.

The whole support process is very frustrating. Spend the money on a Dell S2409W, you can get them for about the same price when they go on special (24", and the stand tilts!) - at least that way you know you're dealing with a company with a reputable support infrastructure. It's what I should've bought in the beginning.

Decent monitor unless you get one with a bad component. I'm still trying to get Acer to repair their product and stand by their warranty.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product... if you're lucky, August 1, 2009
This review is from: Acer X233H bid 23-Inch LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
I've had a pair of Acer X233H monitors for about a week now. Suddenly this morning a bright vertical line appeared on one of them. I tried switching out the cables and the computer running the display, all to no avail. The line even appears when there's no cable plugged into the monitor, just before it goes into standby mode.

I googled around (for Acer X233H quality problems) and discovered that several people have experienced this. I'll RMA it and get a new one, but you should know a fair percentage of these monitors have this problem even though it doesn't show up right away. I'm lucky it appeared while the thing's still covered.

1.0 out of 5 stars Whined, then Lined, then Died in 5 months, September 21, 2009
This review is from: Acer X233H bid 23-Inch LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
Out of the box, this monitor has a noticeable high pitched whine (20,000hz, the kind they drive kids away from mall entrances with). It wears you down after a day of writing in a quiet room.

Movie/Games: Very noticeable flicker at a sitting distance. Unacceptable monitor for games or movie watching.

Three months later, (at the tender age of 5 months post-manufacture) bright vertical lines shot up the right hand side. Dozens of them. Lived with that irritation for another month, and now, the backlight has given out. I get half a second of desktop, then black. I am out of luck with [edit: store I bought it from's] warranty, it was Open Box (ie: caveat emptor, take your chances) at another site.

I am NOW happily back to using my former monitor, a Samsung Syncmaster 220WM, with nice contrast, no flicker, and most importantly, it WORKS, and silently to boot.

Avoid the Acer 233H monitor, and read up on other Acer monitors before you too have a giant, flat, doorstop.

Update Jan 2010: Found my manufacturer's warranty, paid to send it to Acer. They replaced the screen and sent it back with no shipping fee. High pitched whine is gone. Still has noticeable flicker at a sitting distance, still unacceptable for games or movie watching. I'd consider it inherent in the product.

Unbelievable what $189 gets you these days. Just get it, you'll love it. Comes with all cables including the HDMI. I just plugged it in and started playing - Vista had no issues.

2.0 out of 5 stars Died after 5 months, replacement parts are substandard, November 4, 2009

This review is from: Acer X233H bid 23-Inch LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
This is my first LCD monitor. When I got it and set it up, everything was fantastic. Great picture, huge screen, stars in my eyes, blah, blah, blah.

Unfortunately, like other reviews I have read (now, after the fact), my monitor died after 5 months of use. Turn it on, couple seconds of splash and then Black Screen of Death.

Sent it back in for warranty repair (at my own cost for shipping) and they replaced the screen plus a bunch of internals. Sadly for me, the screen they installed has four small bubbles right in the plastic which obstruct the picture. At first they looked like dead pixels but touching them revealed an actual bump in the screen. So now I have to send it back again (at my own cost for shipping... again) and hope they fix it right this time. Although, after reading some of the repair stories in other reviews, I have my doubts about that.

In short: seems like a great monitor but any money you save on the purchase will be spent on shipping it back to the factory for repairs every six months.

Buy a Samsung.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value but watch out for dead 'bright' pixels, August 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer X233H bid 23-Inch LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
Overall this is a great monitor for the price. The image quality is good, the refresh rate is adequate for most applications, and the smallish black frame looks good and is not distracting. The only problem is that there are a couple of dead 'bright' pixels near each other about an inch from the bottom and centered on the screen that are noticeable with dark backgrounds. I looked for dead pixels when I first received this product and regret not checking more carefully and again right before the Amazon 30 day return period as I would have returned it had they shown up by then. If I needed another monitor soon, I would still buy one of these. Hint: An easy way to check for dark pixels in windows is to right click on the desktop > properties > screen saver > blank > preview. There are a lot of test images out there, but bright pixels are all I really care about for my applications. I'll probably put dots of ink over the pixels to black them out after waiting a bit to see if enough appear to get Acer to replace the monitor. Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good monitor at a good price, June 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer X233H bid 23-Inch LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
This monitor works well on my PC. The picture quality is good and there are no dead pixels. Also, for a monitor that you use on a desktop this is probably about as big as you want to get. You'd have to move further away from the monitor if you got something much bigger than this...

This review is from: Acer X233H bid 23-Inch LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
I am using this as a 2nd monitor using the DVI port on my MacBook Pro 13". I have been very happy with the product, it is an excellent value for the price and having all of that space on my desktop makes it a great tool for day to day work. The quality falls a little short of what I would expect in a HD monitor but at this price point, having and HDMI input is a huge plus and I could see this finding it's way onto a wall in my home some day.
