It's hard for me to believe this game is approaching 10 years old now. Certainly by modern (2005) standards the graphics are weak. However, the gameplay is exceptional. You have the option of having your crew speak in German (with subtitles) which really adds to the ambiance. This game covers the entire war and you get upgraded to new boats as time goes along. There is a campaign game and scenarios. Eventually (if you live) you can command a Type XXI submarine. I have retained very few games from the 'early' days but this is one of them. Highly recommend if you are a student of North Atlantic U Boat operations or just a sub fan overall.

I dug this game out of storage this weekend, and fell in love with it all over again!

The basic concept is you get to command a German U boat during WWII. But more so, the gaming AI reaction depends on what part of the war you are in and goes into great detail concering theequipment and tactics This not only gives a great variety of gameplay, but also demonstrates the fluid nature of warfare. For the true fanantic, you can even pick historical missions and follow the advice from U Boat veterans given in taped interviews....heck, it even has a version in German!

Okay, the graphic are clunky and dated, and the interface is old school DOS but The Game is what is important, and there is plenty here to be played. Tweak your difficulty level by weather or enemy type, crew expereince and ship, select your patrol area and set sail. You may hunt a convy, play cat and mouse with a destroyer, or visit the Flordia coast line.

In the end you will not only find you killed an afternoon, but also developed a respect for the sailors that manned these missions.

I was looking forward to playing this game. My MS VISTA would not support it. It might be DOS Based only.
