A Squirrel baffle only works when it is used as designed. This one is extraordinary in that it is beautiful, well made, cannot be chewed through by squirrels (plastic baffels are useless), and provides the added benefit of keeping your feeder (and seed) dry in most weather conditions.

If you're considering buying this product, you probably already know that squirrels (and chipmunks and racoons) are smart and will accomplish amazing feats to get at your bird feeder. This product will keep these 'woods rats' from attacking from above (assuming of course that the feeder is narrow enough that the baffel overhangs it by at least a couple of inches). Realize, however, that if your feeder is pole mounted, then you need a separate baffle to keep them from climbing the pole (or they will jump from the pole to the feeder, thus bypassing the hanging baffle. Also, if the pole/post that your feeder is on has overhead trees/branches (or any in close proximity) then the squirrels will leap on to the pole, climb down below the height of the hanging baffle and leap to your feeder from there. I've also seen them launch from the top of the pole baffle to the feeder.

Bottom line...this product works, but don't expect miracles unless you design a system that makes it more trouble for the squirrels than it is worth for them to defeat it. Over many years of trying I've come to the conclusion that you cannot make a system 'fool proof'. If you try, some fool will come along and prove you wrong.

I have had the baffle in place approximately 3 months. So far the squirrels have been off the feeder that hangs underneath. I do have a shorter feeder under it as opposed to a long tube feeder. I am not sure how effective this would be if there was a long tube feeder with a attached tray.

Initially seemed to work well, squirrels slid off unto the ground, but before too long, they figured it out. Device could possibly be a little wider for a better effect. The key is having a more resistant bird feeder.
