Wet Food is or was, perhaps for lack of a more formal definition, a Portland, Oregon-based, mostly instrumental psych/jazz/rhythm/progressive/electronic/rock project. Personnel on this cd: John Butler-Kerr, guitars & sound effects; Joe Butler, bass, vocals; Joe Trump: drums & percussion. Also appearing on this disc: Jason Dumars, saxaphone; Owen Talley, keyboards and Zoogz Ritt, guitar. This cd was recorded in 1999 using the facilities of a local record store in Portland. Their sound energy comes forth seriously: progressive, textured, unique, and tongue-in-cheek. They also bring to mind comparisons to Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson, maybe a little Primus, some Mickey Hart and a dash of Chocolate Watch Band. This mostly instrumental effort is greatly enhanced by the main trio of performers and their talents: Barlow-Kerr, Butler and Trump display a variety of talents throughout and the mixing & engineering provide evocative blends within each tune. I have listened to this CD many times over since purchasing it and I can't find one single flaw in it. It's like having sex with a turtle, indescribable. It makes me want to jump off a tall building in the back half of a pantomime horse. When I listen to it backwards I have the feeling my head may implode. It's like a million baby ostriches being catapulted into your ear-anus. It causes extreme rehydration and post minstrel crumping. This album could be the end all be all of music in the 23rd century. I just ordered another copy to use as a replacement tile for my myspace space shuttle. If you don't already own a copy or two of this album, it may be to late for you but try anyway. Destruction to all things not Mike Dark-like.
