Far from his best,
By A Customer
This review is from: Acid Rain Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Though this does have a nice selection of his work and 5 new tracks there are quite a few problems. First this is not a greatest hits its simply a mix. The tracks are cut about a minute short which really hurts songs like "No Fault Insurance" and "Would you die for me" since the third verse in these tracks were so vital to the story in the songs. They didn't even get the dates the songs were released right. Secondly the new songs are completley ruined by Icp's appearances. At least Esham came more lyrical on the new tracks then he did on his last release. Finally the last track "Redemption" is something of a painful experience since Esham claims to have found God! Though i admit the track would have been better if Violent J had stayed clear but i am still lost with what Esham is trying to prove here. I dont mind that he has dropped most of the occult themes from his newer material but "repenting" his sins is almost going too far. If he really has become religious then why bother with puttin on 90% of the album which is his old "devil" raps. If he is doing this as a joke or was forced by ICP then i hope he makes his money at psy. and gets signed to someone who will appreciate and not limit his creativity or censor his ideaoligy. I will still listen to Esham for his talent I just hope he knows what he is doing. He may loose a huge portion of his fanbase for this.

I think this CD is an awsome mix of Esham's past songs up to tounges, but some songs are cut short. It doesn't bug me but it may bug other people.

Not wicked, not Unholy not Esham,
By A Customer
This review is from: Acid Rain Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This CD is a huge disappointment to any "true" down for Esham fan. Esham has been a rap genius to many for years and years.. He started "Acid Rap" dropping wicked flows unheard of by any other rapper in the industry. Esham, to me, was one of the few who actually rapped, wrote and promoted what his true throughts and feelings were through the mic and his tracks. This CD brings poorly chosen chopped up tracks together to supposedly to tell the tales of Esham the evolved rapper. All tracks but the last 5, only last 2 minutes.. Only a portion of each song is there. The last 5 songs could be good if they didn't have the goofy juggalo Violent J all over them trying to vocalize in a terrible monotone screech. Don't get me wrong, I like ICP. But I like Esham too, and Esham needs to stay "Acid Rap" not Horror Core. It's fine to have a few songs featuring each other.. but the way it looks Esham will be wearing clown makeup and ... a 2-liter Faygo before to long. To ICP fans I can see how they might enjoy this CD. Hearing a new voice spit it with ICP and do it with clarity and talent. But to myself and many other Esham fans this album is terrible. The worst part of this album is Esham comes across as someone totally different.. He's not "Esham the Unholy" anymore now he's "Esham the Boogie Man" come on now. Not to mention he asks for redemption and basically goes against everything that made him who he is. Esham to me is truly a huge rap icon paving the road for many underground and mainstream rappers of today, now to have him say "I was just playin for the last 15 years, everything I rapped was entertainment and untrue" is truly disappointing to say the least. Anyway, I do not recommend this CD. It brings hacked up whack tracks.. Deafening ICP vocals on the few tracks that are full, and overall a bad compilation. I feel this album was a poor attempt to make quick cash, and sell Eshams name to ICP fans so he will be accepted by them. Nothing on this CD is down for the true Esham fan. It's like getting laughed at for being down for the wicket. Well I'm not a sell out, and Esham can stick it.
