One of My Favorites,
By Bach (Louisville, KY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Acid Test (Audio CD)
I have recently begun seriously listening to instrumental music of all genres and have rarely found much interest in the jazz-fusion arena. however, i believe this album deserves its own genre. set apart from the other squad works, it ups the harsh and heavy, outstanding drumming and soaring yet gritty guitar throughout held down by a bassist who isn't overly independent. although the remainder of the album does not quite fall in line with the onslaught of the opener, numena, my favorite track, this probably a good thing as an intensity level that continuously stratospheric could prove fatal. at times even circus like, it manages to morph into beautfil melodies intermingling with the punch heavy riffing. kollman solidifies his position as a modern guitar virtuoso and am hopeful that their next effort will continue in the light of acid test

Acid Test is a classic!,

If you mixed the DNA of the classic Jimi Hendrix trio with the DNA of classic old school Frank Zappa and drop the vocals you might be able to imagine the kind of weird, wonderful stuff going on with this CD. These guys all play their asses off. I hate to try and put a title on the type of music displayed here because its, rock, jazzy, instrumental, heavy, progressive...you really need to just listen and let the music do the talking for itself. I played this in my car for a week straight and never once got bored or sick of it. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.

Most Under-Rated Rock/Fusion Guitarist Ever......Promise,
By Music Lover (Canoga Park, CA United States) - See all my reviews

Cutting edge instrumental consting of rock/funk/blues with a dose of Metal. The sounds that Jeff Kollman creates on guitar are frightening. Stunning. Not only do you get to hear one of the most musical rock guitarists around, but Mr. Shane Galaas on drums has to be heard to be believed (such a unique style). Easily in the top ten rock instrumental trios of all time.

Tasty instrumental jams,
This review is from: Acid Test (Audio CD)
I have never heard of Cosmosquad or Jeff Kollman until now. Jeff is a tasty guitarist with chops and talent, and from a visit to his website, he is a very busy musician. "Acid Test" is Cosmosquad's fourth album (9 songs, 52 minutes long) and Jeff has several other projects going on at the same time. On this disc, it is Jeff and Shane Gaalaas (also a busy musician with several solo albums) who plays drums, co-produced, recorded, mixed, and helped master the album. Guest musicians fill in playing bass and keys on a few songs. The music is instrumental rock and/or fusion that reminds me a bit of Amino Acid Flashback or Get Out of My Yard. Definitely work checking out if you like guitar-heavy jams, and you can get this at a decent price if you check out Jeff's website.
