Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Comments from the back of the book:

"Forry's love of the genre is a child's wonder, untouched by sophistication which eventually corrupts . . .Forry was the first, he was the best and he is the best" --Stephen King

"Finally, a long-awaited anthology which appeals to both veteran sci-fi enthusiasts as well as newer generations of readers who are looking for the rare, hidden treasures of science fiction literature." --A. E. van Vogt

"As usual this book proves Forry's unparalleled knowledge of the field" --Jerome Bixby

About the Author

Forrest J Ackerman edited and published Ray Bradbury’s first story in 1938, edited the seminal Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine for years, has appeared in well over 50 sci-fi and horror films, and has helped to inspire countless professional careers and his fans’ lifelong admiration, including such notables as George Lucas and Stephen King. A writer, editor, filmmaker and collector of science fiction material for 70 of his 83 years, he is the author of dozens of stories and editor of five previous complete anthologies.

He coined the term “sci-fi,” received the first Hugo award (and has won 6 in total), contributed to the first fanzine, started an sf club in 1929, lives in the Hollywood Hills in the Ackermansion, an 18-room home “gem-packed” with 300,000 pieces, 50,000 books alone, 100,000 stills from fantastic films, has attended 56 of 58 World Science Fiction Conventions ... The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror has twice honored him with Golden Saturns.

We could go on. His love of the genre and his pioneering efforts are truly irreplaceable: He opens his home/museum to the public most weekends, and he can be contacted via the information in the back of Ackermanthology.
