My dogs, a Springer Spaniel and a Dachshund were both trained on a sports whistle and I wasn't sure how they would react to this one. The pitch is quite a bit higher and it doesn't sound very loud but the dogs responded great the first time I used it.

my easily distracted dog has been hard to train but for some reason she perks up and responds to this whistle better than any other method I've tried. Thrilled with the results from such a simple but effective training tool.

I first heard about ACME on TV some years ago and must admit I had some trepidation about buying one of their products as Whiley Coyote's devices never did seem to catch that large speed-chicken. As it turns out, I was right.

When I unpacked it, my little Maltese Terrier was curious about what I had and started her usual `excited' routine of running in circles and pissing on the tiles. However, when I blew the whistle, there was no reaction at all.

At first I was puzzled, until a friend pointed out that it was an English dog whistle!!!...they really should make this more apparent!! I rang the company and asked if they had any translation-type device or attachment explaining I needed it for a Maltese terrier, not an English one, but they were decidedly unhelpful.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to get my dog to understand this in English would be great...I've tried everything. Even google translate won't do anything. And to make matters worse I think the English sound of a whistle must be very similar to another sound in Malta because now any time I blow this thing my dog arse-surfs along the carpet. Beleive me when I say buyer beware...

The ACME 210.5 whistle is a great training tool. It gives a distinctive high-pitch whistle that the dogs really respond to. It's small and fits in your pocket or around a lanyard. This whistle can snap my dog out of anything.

Another great thing about it is that there is no trill. This is not your gym teacher's whistle. It is just a straight consistent tone. That really cuts down on the obnoxious level, in my opinion.

I want to adress what some others have complained about. Yes, this whistle is pretty loud. It is not unbearably loud. It will not be so loud that you can't train with it. But, yeah, after an extensive training session your ears will be ringing a bit. I don't think that is a knock on the whistle. It needs to be loud enough that your dogs can hear it from a distance, and it needs to be reliable. I think a bunch of people expect this to be silent because it is a dog whistle. But, trust me, the efficacy of silent dog whistles is mostly nonsense. Real trainers use this whistle. Do not expect it to be silent, it wasn't intended to be.

When using an English Cocker as a flushing dog for quail; this whistle is perfect as it has a different sound from the whistle normally used for bird dogs. This prevents confusion between the dogs while they are working.

I have tried several times on our boat but there have so far been no response. Whales also have seemed to ignore it. But honestly thats good since humpbacks could create an issue being much larger than our boat. I will continue to try and update but so far, nothing from cetaceans.

My dogs also seem mostly unimpressed. When they are off in the woods it seems they can hear me better than verbally calling them. Once our dogs broke off their zip line, the pulley broke and they were tethered together with the cable. They were able to bark in response to the whistle when we were looking for them. But in general they don't recall any better even though I always praise their return and treat when they respond. I also reserve this whistle's use for when i need them to return from a distance.

This is audible to humans.

Price is good, able to purchase several (one for each family member, & a spare), Can be heard by dog at great distance (I never could do the "fingers in yer mouth whistle), beyond voice reach. I recommend using this for training, very effective tool.
