4.0 out of 5 stars An overall fun cd to listen to
This cd is full of an incredible mix of music that stands by it's own. If you want something to fry your speakers and freak out to, or just to chill, buy this cd. This my first JSBX cd, and i can't wait to get my hands on another one. 4.0 out of 5 stars An overall fun cd to listen to, August 4, 2000

This cd is full of an incredible mix of music that stands by it's own. If you want something to fry your speakers and freak out to, or just to chill, buy this cd. This my first JSBX cd, and i can't wait to get my hands on another one. Songs like Blue Green Olga and Calvin are simply great songs, while attack litteraly is a freakish explosion of noise and base that's a substitute to caffeine and could really startle you if you're not ready for it. A few songs, like "do you wanna get heavy" kinda get lazy and boring. But the funk and bass of the album mixed in with some memphis blues and xperimental hip-hop are flat out creative and set a new standard. JSBX is, in my opinion, a pioneer band, and can't be imatated.

4.0 out of 5 stars highly skilled band, leaves me frustrated, October 31, 2007

Another reviewer has mentioned "frustration" on a review for "Orange", also by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and that is what I feel mostly when I listen to their stuff. That's because I think in anything they do it is very apparent how UNBELIEVABLY CAPABLE this band is. I also saw them live once, and live it becomes even clearer. If you can, see them live! My issue is that on each album, they give you 1-3 songs that truly rock and blow you away (Ex: High Gear here and Brenda on Orange). Listening to these tracks, you will be amazed how full a three-man band can sound. But in between, there is all this show-off hodge-podge of styles that keeps changing precisely when you got used to some hook/melody/beat - you name it. I can understand that if someone has "mastered" blues/rock/soul/funk etc. it's fun for him/her to de-construct it Coltrane-style as these guys do. But for me unenlightened earthling, I just want to rock on! So, most of Jon Spencer's stuff to me is like coitus interruptus. However, I do give four stars because I think these guys are geniuses and hope that one day, they will make a pure fun album. If not, I'm just gonna buy all the CDs over my lifetime, rip off the truly entertaining rock/blues tracks and collect my own best-of sampler.

4.0 out of 5 stars BX rocks!, April 8, 2007
This review is from: Acme (Audio CD)
Tired of the same old thing? Than buy this CD now. I agree this type of music is not for everyone but if you have an open mind and like great rock music than check it out. Jon is a trip! I've seen him live playing with the Dickinson Brothers and he is so into it you get caught up in his enthusiasm. ACME is a refreshing change to the stagnating music industry.
Dig it!

These guys master the arts of rock & funk so well that I cant wait to get my hands on another one of their records. Great instrumental that mix the rythm of a Maceo Parker and the electric power of Skunk A. This album will definitely get you started in the morning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Stop Now, Jon!, July 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Acme (Audio CD)
Well, Well, all those who say ACME is better than Orange watch out! You got a fight comin'. But ACME is good. It has a bit too much R&B sound for it to be the real Blues Explosion, but it'll do until they get back from touring. All the songs are great, but they still need an "anthem" for this album. Orange: Blues x Man; Extra Width: Inside the World of the Blues Explosion; Now I Got Worry: Fuck Shit Up; etc. If you can't get into this album, try some of their live stuff (Controversial Negro, etc.) then come back to ACME... You'll change your mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars latest album of the blues explosion, May 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Acme (Audio CD)
This latest recording of the Blues explosion is more introvert than the noisy music of this band was up till now. Jon became a father, and this really is to notice. Eventhough the band is easier to listen to, also ACME is worth listening. More blues and less noisy guitars will bring them a lot of new fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Play the blues...punk!, April 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Acme (Audio CD)
This Cd it always in my cd player. I'm always rocking it out with good old Jon, Judah, and Russel. I can't get enough of their sweat sounds. Jon Spencer and the boys are musical wizards. I only wish more people put out Cd's like this one. I also wish more people heard of the Blues Explosion. If you like good music give this a taste. This Cd is an eclectic explosion of sound!
