Overall impression: Good design and parts fit. Good performance without significant heat. The enclosure is fanless but ventilated at the front.

The enclosure and interior drive carrier are metal. It's easy to install the hard drive, especially with the handling advice given in the manual. The printed manual is complete and well illustrated.

The enclosure included robust cables for USB, eSATA, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800. Its power adapter has a firm-fitting plug that does not fall out.

Two of the four case screws were installed in the enclosure when I received it. The other two were in a tiny bag inside the box.

It comes with a stand that fits into a channel on the bottom of the enclosure. The plastic stand is tightened with metal hardware. The whole assembly sits solidly.

This "Quad" enclosure is really for those who need the FireWire 800 and/or eSata connections. Other Samba models are available at lower price, if you just need USB or FireWire 400. There is already a USB 3.0 version.

I also own an Acomdata 2.5" Tango enclosure that is of the same good construction as this 3.5" enclosure.

This hard drive housing is absolutely the best I have ever used. And I've used a LOT. I do Data Recovery and Computer Forensics for a living. I am also a Professional Photographer. As you might imagine, I use a LOT of hard drives.

I have always built my own external drives out of enclosures and Western Digital hard drives. That way I can use the Enterprise drives to get top performance and reliability - and get the housing I like. This gives me USB2 plus Firewire 400 and 800 for any SATA drive all in one enclosure. The Firewire 800 speed is amazingly fast.

Simply the best enclosure I've ever used.

Very easy set up. works fine with imac. Easy to initialize and set up with time machine. very quiet when running. small footpad on desktop

Placed a 2TB WD drive in the enclosure and it works. My homemade external drive replaced a much more expensive Seagate 2TB drive that failed right out of the box. I would buy this enclosure again if I need to create another external FireWire 800 drive.
