Book Description

August 15, 1998
The Acorn Principle brings a new perspective to self-improvement: success and happiness do not come from changing yourself, but rather from discovering your natural talents and abilities and aligning your life accordingly. You will discover seven systems that exist within you: your natural values, "how" you are intelligent, your optimum velocity, your background imprint, your behavior patterns, your thinking style, and your learning style. These seven systems together comprise your "Acorn Profile." With this increased self-awareness you will be able to accomplish more with less effort than ever before.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Cathcart, a popular motivational speaker easily as successful as Anthony Robbins or Stephen Covey, condenses his self-discovery module into a self-awareness system based on discovering and learning to work with one's true nature. He claims that if all adults explore how their values, type of intelligence, velocity (high, medium, low), background, behavior patterns, and thinking/learning styles operate they can find healthier, happier, livelier relationships. Once the reader works through the book and discovers his or her "acorn profile," it becomes a useful tool for self-definition and developing appropriate, complementary relationships at home and at work. Each chapter is peppered with thought-provoking questions and exercises. Recommended for collections requiring more in the motivational psychology/personal success sections.ALisa S. Wise, Broome Cty. 4.0 out of 5 stars Know thyself is the message, August 22, 2002
Jim Cathcart has written a great book detailing what it takes to discover and develop your hidden potential. He states that every person has a certain kind of unlocked talent (like the acorn) inside of them... a certain genius, and to be happy and successful all you have to do is discover and develop it. "The oak sleeps within you"

This book guides you through some detailed questions and exercises to help you in finding your "highest and best use". I took the time to actually write down answers to the questions he puts forth in my journal. It was interesting and well worth the time spent.

I must confess... I have read many self-help books of this type over the past five years. I cannot say that I was blown away by the originalty of this book. However, had this been the first book of its type that I ever picked up, it would have easily ranked near the top of my list. His ideas are clear and concise, but mainly focused at the 'beginner' so to speak.

So, if you are unhappy in your current situation, job, life... try to look inside and see what is going on in there. What lies dormant within you is just waiting to grow into something big. Jim Cathcart's book can certainly help!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Inner Circle changed my life!, August 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Acorn Principle: Know Yourself, Grow Yourself (Hardcover)
Chapter 12: How Your Relationships Define You - really stretched my mind. It never occured to me that the primary people in my life are "part of who I am". I now see how I tell myself and the rest of the world about myself through the people I associate with most often. The 3 essentials for a healthy relationship has given me a plan for how to enhance each of my most important relationships. I've looked at the mix of people in my inner circle, the individuals, and my connections with each of them. Now I'm "going shopping" for some new relationships to expand my life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! I never knew so much about myself!, August 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Acorn Principle: Know Yourself, Grow Yourself (Hardcover)
This book showed me parts of myself I always felt but never could explain. Now I know how to predict my reactions to people and situations and how to make better choices for who I really am. The chapter on Natural Values and the one on Personal Velocity explained why some of the people I know behave as they do. It also made me more accepting of the differences in others. Some people really are quite different from me, in how they think, feel, perceive things, etc. Not only is this book good psychology but the author's style is very encouraging and entertaining. I need to reread this book about once every year. Get one for the people you really care about. Then discuss it with them. You will know each other better.
