3.0 out of 5 stars A BIT DISAPPOINTED
I love Anne McCaffrey and the Acorna character. But it certainly seems as though her books suffer when there's a co-author. Less action and sooooo much description included that her characters suffer from malnutrition. In some of her co-authored books I could probably tell you which chapters were written by each author. In this one it's not as clear although that may...

Like the earlier Acorna novels, nothing goes as planned for Acorna. The development of the characters wasn't as in depth as the earlier novels. But with very few new characters added this is not a hinderance. Acorna's uncle seemed a lot more miserly than I remembered. He was always profit motivated, but, was still generous.

The descriptions of the planet made the story come alive. You could feel the how they felt. The description of the desolate surface play well into the feeling of desparation and despair.

It was very enjoyable and a fast read. I found myself disappointed when I reached the end... I can hardly wait for the next installment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fifth book in Acorna Series, June 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Acorna's Search (Hardcover)
The first book I read in the series was actually the second so I had to go buy the first. After reading the third and fourth it is starting to get slow. I was excited at seeing this book was out but disappointed that everything isn't finished up yet. I did read it in a day so its a good read. Now I can't wait for the next installment.

I recieved the book in record time considering we were so close to the holidays when I ordered it and it arrived in excellent condition. As far as the book itself the story is great. I had purchased most of the series and as I read discovered I had missed that one. I impatiently waited for its arrival and was quite pleased when it arrived sooner than anticipated. For anyone who has read any other of Anne McCaffreys books this is a must read series. If you haven't then this is a great place to start!

5.0 out of 5 stars She Does It Again, January 11, 2007
McCaffrey never disappoints. This is another winner in a wonderful series. My only disappointment was the "cliff hanger" ending. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

this series never ceases to amaze me....after the first two novels i couldn't help but continue. although there have been bumps in the road i feel that acorna's search a definite read, especially for those who have read the previous four books. it is a fast read, with alot of twists and turns that keep you wanting to find out what's going on. i thought the ending was alittle cut off, but i guess it just means another acorna book will be gracing the bookshelves in the future. a definitive book concerning the linyaari and their personal history and more informative source to acorna, aari, maati, thaarinye, and company, certainly more detailed and more enlightening. i thoroughly enjoyed reading it. another triumph for anne and elizabeth!!!

In this one it's not as clear although that may just be my lack of attention. Having said all of that I will not be able to resist buying the next Acorna book--or anything else by McCaffrey!

2.0 out of 5 stars Hmm..., May 18, 2005
I find this book very hard to get in to. Not much action here. I've had this book for almost a year and I haven't gotten past the third chapter. Need I say more?

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs more Zip, March 8, 2003

It was good but needed more speed, urgency for what was happening with Acorna. Left you really hanging at the end when It came to her life mate. Seems to me she should have found him which would have ended the book on a happy note. Then with the next book the adventure begins again onto something else.

This review is from: Acorna's Search (Hardcover)
The first volume of this series was wonderful - a great story, with great characters, danger, intrigue, romance...well, you get the picture. In the course of her search (in 5 volumes), Acorna has encountered a number of people - very few of them with any socially redeeming value. The few new characters introduced in the later sequels are almost entirely nasties, if not outright villeins. It seems that McCaffrey (or someone) is determined to show that all peoples, particularly those from a venerated past, are mean, low and self-centered, particularly scientist types who really want to either exploit or explore our heroes without their consent. I'm not sure where this is going but I sure hope McCaffrey and her heroine get there fast. Sometimes characters and plot lines have a half life - I believe this one died two books ago and is starting to smell.
