This box set is truly a Masterpiece! It includes dollys triolgy of bluegrass/mountain folk records "The grass is blue","Little sparrow" and "Halos and horns" plus a bonus dvd/cd disc! between the three cds here dolly won two grammys and was nominated for several more! You will not be disappointed at all with this buget priced boxedset! Dolly is right at home with this bluegrass music! her vocals are cystal clear and brillant! dont pass up a chance to get these cds!!!!

only problem with this package, it contains three previously released cd's that i already have. if you do not have them it is an excellent buy.

Dolly Parton's career was rejuvinated when she recorded a series of bluegrass albums for the independent label Sugar Hill Records between 1999-2002. After leaving the label for her own record company Dolly records, Sugar Hill repackaged those three albums along with a special bonus DVD of five new song remixes of "Train, Train", "I'm Gone", "Seven Bridges Road", "Travelin' Prayer", and "Shine". There are also a few Dolly videos and a special performance of Norah Jones and Dolly performing "The Grass is Blue" together on the 2003 CMA Awards on the DVD. The DVD is splendid, but the crowning jewel here are the Grammy winning and nominated albums, those that garnered Dolly the best critical reviews of her life. "The Grass is Blue" may well be the greatest bluegrass album ever by any artist, winning Dolly the Grammy for Best Bluegrass album for 1999. Then, "Little Sparrow" gave Dolly another Grammy for Best Country Vocal in 2001 for her stirring rendition of "Shine". Finally, "Halos and Horns", more country sounding, gave Dolly a rare nomination for Best Country Album of 2002. A fabulous collection of Dolly Parton music, don't let this one get away. Music doesn't get any better than this!

Dolly Parton is a wonderful acoustic performer. Her Appalachian roots shine through in the Bluegrass selections in this set. I liked (with a few exceptions) the songs chosen, and the players were marvellous.

I agree with everything said by the Canadian reviewer above me. And I say that the DVD has seven audio and four videos. The audios are awsome evidence: the Dolly and harmony voice tracks for two songs, and three tracks of instrumentals from the magnificent groups of musicians from the three albums. There are also two long essays, one by her longtime producer Steve Buckingham and one by Slate film critic Stephanie Zacharek, especially descriptive of the song "Down From Dover."

As to the three CDs, these aren't repackages - Sugar Hill Records gives you the exact three CDs as originally sold a decade ago. They each come with the folded postcard for Sugar Hill's mailing list. Little Sparrow is a card fold-out digipack and the others are in typical plastic CD cases.

Halos & Hornes from 2002 even has the original extra-special 17 minutes of CD-ROM interview clips, photos and song snatches as an overflowing bucket. And security tape. And the song lyrics. And the Sugar Hill postcard.

Beautiful.

GREAT 4 CD SET. ALOT OF BLUE GRASS AND ACOUSTIC STUFF AND AS USUAL DOLLY'S WONDERFULL VOICE AND INSTRUMENT PLAYING. JM

This is the absolute best of Dolly. She has been one of my favorite singers for years and this is my favorite of her work.

Very good selection of songs from an earlier time. If you like Dolly Parton, you will love this selection of songs. Most of my personal favorites are included in this CD series.

Although this collection contains many re-issues, the selections are very good. The included DVD adds to the package's value.
Acoustic music is so much richer than the electronic instruments used by
many current performers. It down to earth, back to the basics, for
a excellent collection of country music.

There are four cds in this box. Three worked fine but the freebie didn't work at all. I returned it to you and you promptly replaced the whole set. Same problem--three out of the four work fine but the Acoustic Selection still won't run. Since I wanted the three, I just gave up on the fourth one. Outside of that I'm very satisfied.
