Richie's Acoustic Thang, November 2, 2007
This review is from: Acoustic Cuts (Audio CD)
Richie Kotzen is one of the most talented guitarist that ever walked the Earth, we all know this. But he's not only this thing, how much time should pass until the world will recognise his incredible talent as a brilliant songwriter and 360° performer? This very "simple" album is here to open the ears of those who, until today, have judged him only for his (unbelievable by the way) guitar chops. I have bought this one knowing exactly what it would contain (songs stripped down and played very simply only by Richie in acostic setting), but on the other side I was hoping that Richie could blow me away with some acoustic chops like he did on the "Native tongue" album from Poison. I know you fellow guitarists know the brief tune I'm talking about. Well, he didn't. But this doesn't matter, totally. You'll not gonna find here guitar chops, arpeggios, scales, mindblowing acoustic arrangements. No. These are songs (it's a compilation of his best songs actually but played differently, rearranged for acoustic guitar and voice), played in the simplest way by Richie. What is really exceptional here, what really shines is Richie's talent as songwriter and performer. And there's nothing more to add really. He is simply a phenomenal artist. He writes splendid songs, no matter what the industry is trying to do to ignore that. As the booklet states correctly, very hardly an artist could be considered very good in more than one thing. If you're a very good guitar player, well you can't be a brilliant songwriter, .. you can't be more than just a guitar wiz. This is how the things go in the show biz. Well, Richie actually is much more than just a fantastic guitar wizard. Listen to this one and you'll know why. His songs are wonderful. Highly Recommended!
Some time later ... the more I listen to this album the more I love it, it is absolutly a fabolous, wonderful, album that touches my heart and my emotions in many ways. Thank you Richie for these wonderful songs.

Not an acoustic fan. But...., October 29, 2005

Not an acoustic fan but because the song writing and singing is first rate I must give it 4 stars. First time I heard it I wasn't really impressed but it gets better each time I listen.
