I really enjoy Matt Duke's music. I have downloaded all of his songs to date, and could probably list 20 songs that I love, or really like, at the drop of a hat. He is a really talented songwriter, lyricist, singer and guitarist.

If I had to give anyone an album to start listening to Matt Duke with, this would be it. He is at his vulnerable best with his guitar and voice, and not too much more. He is brave in many of his choices, in the complexity of his guitar playing, and in the places he goes vocally and lyrically. That should be all he needs, but...

***What I wish I could say to Matt Duke if I met him face to face**

I actually think he needs a collaborator with a sense of how to arrange music, at times, because I REALLY dislike many of his "full-band" tracks on other albums. (I have someone in mind, my kid, a graduate of Berklee College of Music, who can't sing, but is a great composer/arranger, and who always finds the golden note. I so wish I could introduce them.) I also have seen him live a couple of times and wish he would dress a little better, look up at the crowd and engage the audience more. I think the guitar parts are so intricate it is often hard for him to do anything else. He needs a guy or two in the background, to take the pressure off.

This guy should be playing on Ellen and Tavis Smiley, and getting the same crowds as The Script, One eskimO, Ray LaMontagne, Angel Taylor, Amos Lee, Ingrid Michaelson, etc. He needs to get his "act" together, though, and work on his arrangements. He is really great, but the packaging needs work.

Great addition to his full length Kingdom Underground album! This is such an intimate version of his best songs (just him and the guitar). Make sure you get the actual CD, there's a VERY nice picture of him in the inside cover :)

Love this cd, the acoustic recording makes Matt Duke's music sound even more raw. A must for teh musical library of Matt Duke fans.
