Not your normal acoustic album,

This review is from: Acoustic Motel (Audio CD)
I became hooked on Jack after seeing him live at the local fair. The energy in his performance was addictive. I snatched up Live @ Billy Bobs, and wasn't disappointed. I searched high and low for more Jack @ local stores, and stumbled across Acoustic Motel. Initially I was skeptical. High energy Jack...acoustic? without the BUF Band? I'm happy to say that I was WRONG!!!
The entire CD is so intimate, so honest, so Jack. Yes, there are curse words, but not excessive, and just like you'd expect. He pokes fun at himself, and everyone else. Track 1 - Airways Motel - 9/10 - Soft, beautiful, almost lullaby-like quality Track 2 - Hey You - 7/10 - a few notes out of tune. This is such great high-energy song w/ the band, it just doesn't come out right Track 3 - Work This Out - 9/10 - I think Jack was finally hitting his stride with this song. He seemed more awake and into the song. I missed the harmony and found myself singing it! Track 4 - I Would - 9/10 - "and I would if I could" - In this song Jack varies his guitar picking style and dynamics to match his voice in different times of the song. Very effective Track 5 - Fool - 8/10 - An introspective song about fooling yourself in relationships Track 6 - Everybody - 9/10 - A bit to long of an intro story, but still funny. The song is about all the doubts that we all have, the worries, insecurities Track 7 - One Thing - 10/10 - He needs her, that's the one thing he knows in the world. Wonderful lyrics, melody. One of my fav tracks Track 8 - What makes you say - 9/10 - a sad song, trying to figure out why a relationship has gone so wrong. you can hear the anguish and confusion in his voice Track 9 - Flutter - 10/10 - My favorite track on this disc. I fell in love with this song on the Live @ Billy Bobs disc. I didn't think it could get any better, but I was wrong. Even tho he he hits a few odd chords, the transitions, licks, slides, and boogie blues rhythm absolutely MAKE this track. Track 10 - Drive On - 8/10 - A sweet story in song about a young man and his girl, picking up, leaving town, and driving on Track 11 - Song for Amy - 8/10 - Classic Jack, his first love song. He admits that he's not original, and in that reveals his vulnerability. "I love you, I want you, and I need you" Track 12 - Nothing Wrong with That (Beat-up ford part 2) - 10/10 - The best version of this song I've heard. It's a little faster than I'm used to on other cuts, but Jack truly shines on this song (which, BTW, was my least favorite on the Billy Bob's album!) Track 13 - Mustang Burn - 9/10 - I love this song, this isn't my favorite cut, but his running commentary, gravely beginning, and "HAHA"s throughout the song make up for any other imperfections. Track 14 - Biloxi - 8/10 - A young man's questioning to his father who left them for Biloxi Track 15 - Goodnight Moon - 9/10 - A Jack concert staple, and a perfect, soft ending to an acoustic concert

I'm not much of a country music fan. I like a little of it though. Acoustic Motel doesn't seem like a typical country music album. I think of it more as ROCK, FOLK, COUNTRY. And, to me, Jack, alone with his guitar, is the way I like him best. I bought some of his early stuff like Livin or Dyin and I think another one called Live at Adair's. Those two, for me, have too much of that old style country sound. But, Live at Billy Bob's Texas, Live Where ever you are, and ESPECIALLY ACOUSTIC MOTEL ARE GREAT. ACOUSTIC MOTEL IS ONE OF THE SINGLE BEST ALBUMS I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE. I don't buy many albums because they usually have one or two great songs and then a bunch of "filler crap". With ACOUSTIC MOTEL, EVERY SINGLE SONG IS GREAT and done in one of the ways I like best, just a guy and his guitar. That's usually when I FEEL a persons music the most. I actually discovered Jack for the first time around a year ago when he did a guest appearance in an old Sandra Bullock movie called "Hope Floats". I saw him, heard him, and had to check him out. ACOUSTIC MOTEL made it more than worth it!!! HE'S WARM, FUN, ENERGETIC, AND BEAUTIFUL (IN A REALLY COOL GUY KIND OF WAY, OF COURSE). LOVE YA LOTS, JACK. YOU'VE MADE ME FEEL BETTER DURING SOME REALLY HARD TIMES AND I'M FOREVER GRATEFUL!!!

You can tell that Jack Ingram writes his own music because unlike so many "big names" in the music industry, Jack really feels his music and every song comes off sounding very sincere. This was actually my second time buying Acoustic Motel b/c I wore my original one out! No joke. He calls this album a "let's not break up just yet" track and that is exactly what it is. If it wasn't for Jack Ingram this Kentucky girl probably wouldn't still be with her Texan of two years. In Acoustic Motel Jack relates to every problem that seems so catastrophic in relationships and makes them seem not so disasterous. I listen to him when I'm up and when I'm down. Don't know where I'd be without him!
