UPDATE: after nine months of use, this dock went on the fritz. First, the power light stopped illuminating, which was more of an inconvenience than a show-stopper. Soon after, it started displaying "this device is not supported by iPad" every time I plugged it in (it still charged so I ignored it). Finally, the volume buttons started malfunctioning on an intermittent basis, then my IPad's internal speakers would stop working every time I plugged it into the dock (had to reboot the iPad to fix it every time). The "cons" for my original review below made this a purchase to probably avoid, these latest developments make it a must-avoid.

I got this as a Christmas gift to dock my iPad. I have used it about a month now and there are several pros and cons for this dock:

PROs:
1. It is pretty compact, which is important to me since I keep it on my nightstand. Nice small footprint.
2. Sound is pretty good for a dock. If you are looking for super high audio quality though, this won't be a great choice. I use it mainly for viewing TV/Video stuff and for that the sound is fine.
3. The rotating feature makes it possible to use the iPad in both portrait and landscape format. The portrait version makes the dock even more compact, but you need the landscape for videos and TV. Simple push of a button rotates the section holding the iPad.
4. It came with mounting plates for original iPad, iPad2, iPod, and iPhone. You'd have to swap out the mounts each time you change devices though, so I don't bother and just leave the iPad mount on there all the time.
5. It charges the iPad when docked, which is convenient for overnight.

CONs:
1. When the iPad isn't on the dock, the thing looks pretty ugly sitting around. Ah well.
2.

I liked this product as it was exactly what I was searching for. I've been through a lot of docking stations, and so far, this one does it for me. The actual ipad/ipod app that goes with this is pretty unreliable, but that's not what this review is about. The sound is great for the large room I live in, and the motorized rotation is suprisingly quite quiet. Do be careful removing the ipad though. It is a sliding motion, so if you just yank it out, you have no one to blame but yourself when you break the mount. It has the mounting brackets for both ipad 1 and 2, and most generations of ipod. The remote is a bit flimsy, so be careful with it. I also like how using the next and previous buttons, while watching youtubes videos, allows me to play and replay videos in my history. If you're worried about the ugly look of it when the ipad is out, (lol) just take the bracket off and it gets a whole lot more attractive. I hope this helps everyone make an informed purchase! Semper Fi!

First off, let me say that I was very excited to get this dock. I'd heard that the sound was nice and loud - something I was lacking. I opened it up, put it together, tried to turn it on, and the remote battery was dead. Nice.

I started the thing up manually, and began playing it with my iPad. The left speaker didn't play any sound.

At this point, I was pretty pissed, and eventually found a battery in my Apple TV remote. I replaced the remote battery, and hit the button marked "sound," which turned on the other speaker. Why the heck isn't that enabled by default? Every time I turn the thing off, I have to turn the other speaker back on. What happens if I lose my remote?

I thought, "Maybe if I install the app it'll have settings." Biggest mistake of my day. I installed the app, started hitting buttons to check out the settings and whatnot, and hit the "Radio" button. The message "Charging has been disabled while in radio mode to prevent interference."

I left radio mode.

Charging never came back.

I've deleted the app, changed settings within the app, unplugged the device, hit every button, but the damn thing won't charge anymore. I'd like to send it back to the manufacturer for the warranty, but I have to pay shipping both ways and it could take a very, very long time for what I see as a possible software/firmware issue.

Don't even look at this product.

Had immense problems with the Acoustic Review app that is recommended as it only allowed access to ipad songs not other apps that use audio like Hulu, Podcasts, Tune In etc.

Deleted installed app and now works great. If all you are looking for a speaker and stand, it works.

The other features as part of the Acoustic Research App are available through other Ipad apps like Nightstand if you need them.

Nice and stable for watching TV or movies in bed.

It works seamlessly, but sound is rather poor, definitely not a boze...No setup required, just plug and play? Has an included app that is mostly useless
