High expectations - Did not work for me,

I don't consider myself an audiophile but I know the difference between good sound and bad sound. I live in a city and I guess there is just too much RF bouncing around for these speakers to work well. I setup the speakers per the manufactures specs and tried the troubleshooting. Even with the speakers 10 ft away I still hear audible pops and hiss. Just for giggles I moved one of the speakers to the bedroom 40 ft away. Maybe the old Victorian I live in has too many layers of lead paint but I could barely hear the music playing and a constant level of hiss almost as loud as the music. The speakers may work better in an environment with less RF inference but they did not work for me. I did like the styling and the front large volume controls and the battery option for the speakers.

Took a Chance -- It didn't pay off,

Based on the other ratings for this product, I felt like was taking a chance order these speakers. It seemed like it was about a 50/50 chance that they would function, if they actually weren't defective from the get go. When I initially set up the speakers I couldn't get clear reception but I figured it was because of the layout of my house and the fact that there were too many walls in between the transmitter and the speakers. When I moved them to another location with a clear line of sight to the transmitter they seemed to be much better. We used them one night and then when I went to turn them on the next night one of the speakers was completely dead and wouldn't even turn on. So, I've already sent them back to Amazon and requested a refund. I checked out the website of one of the bricks and mortar electronics stores and saw a pair of Element wireless speakers that had 14 review and a 4/5 star rating. They were only $100 and I wasn't sure if they'd be good quality, but I picked a pair up last night and they are excellent. They even worked great in the location where I couldn't get good reception on the Acoustic Research speakers. For anyone looking for an inexpensive set of wireless speakers that delivery decent quality sound and seem to be good quality, I highly recommend the Element speakers.

AR wireless speakers good for what they are,
This review is from: Acoustic Research AW877 900 Mhz Indoor Wireless Speakers (Black) (Electronics)
These are great sounding speakers for the price and the wireless flexibility is just what I needed. I did run into limitations though. When I had them two rooms away from the stereo I was getting a popping sound every few seconds. I moved them closer and the popping sound went away, so I found the range in my house limited to about 30 feet from the sending unit. I do have a lot of flourescent lights, so that may add to the problem. I also had the sending unit die after about 2 weeks. Fortunately the return for exchange to Amazon was very easy to do. The bright lights on the speakers are annoying, but I solved this by putting electrical tape over them. Finally, I just use them plugged in and would not even consider the cost of putting 8 batteries in each speak, unless maybe if I had rechargeable batteries.I do recommend the speakers, but just want to note their limitations.
