I used this cable with my new Sony (forget model) upconverting DVD player. It works fine. Obviously in the end, it is your DVD player and TV that do the magic. This guy is merely the messenger. If not anything, it is a one to one cable connection as opposed to an S-Video and Audio cable. The price of HDMI cable seem to vary from outrageously 100$ to ridculously 15$ making me wonder if there was QC issue. I stuck with Acoustic Research because it is a well known company.

This HDMI cable is great. I have it hooked up to my upconversion DVD player and it provides a crisp picture. I would definitely recommend this product to anybody. Also the price is WAY less than what you would have to pay for a Monster HDMI cable.

If you've decided to forego purchasing your HDMI cables at the retailers and came here instead, you've already taken a step in the right direction. However, there is absolutely no reason to spend more than $[...] on an HDMI cable, unless you are dealing with cables that are 25" or longer. Even then, the likelihood of problems is very low. There are plenty of retailers out there that sell these for very cheap. [...] is a reputable source among Slickdeals/Fatwallet members.

The reality is, as another poster mentioned, these cables carry a digital signal. This means a high voltage level to represent 1 and a low voltage level to represent 0. Since the line can only carry two possible values, any noise in the line that skews these values must be VERY large in order to push a 0 to a 1 or vice-versa. Unless you live inside a nuclear reactor (OK, maybe that's overkill) you do not need all of the expensive shielding that these high priced cables give you.

On top of that, even in a high noise environment shielding will not improve the "quality" of a digital signal in the way you might think. If there is enough noise to interfere with the 1's and 0's then your TV will be getting garbage data from whatever is on the other end of the cable. Meaning your TV screen will display garbage, and it will be very apparent that you either have a defective cable or you are in a high-noise environment and need a high quality cable (unlikely).

So why not buy yourself a cheap cable and try it out first? As long as it works at all, it will be giving you as good a quality picture as the expensive one.

The connector is easly seperated from the cable and as a result damaged beyond repair. The cable is heavy and when the connector is mated the weight of the cable puts pressure on the connector and the stress begings to seperate the connector from the cable.

I had this failure happen with both cables. I recommend less expensive cables that meet minimum standards. This type of connector is available at less than half the price and works fine.

I'm not the first one to say this product is not the cheapest nor the most expensive HDMI product out there. I surely wouldn't trust one of those puzzling $1.39 cables advertised here, something is not right about those, nor do I believe in magical cables that cost a fortune (I knew a guy who bought $2000 cables to hook up two stereo speakers! That requires a belief system different than mine!).

AR is a trusted company that has for years made good quality, no-nonesense audio equipment, so I went for this cable and it works just fine.

There is something, though, to be said about lighter and more flexible cables that do not put a strain on those little connections. Thickness is pretty much for effect, so I took off a star because these cables are fairly thick and stiff.

Of course they are made in China.

Addition to review after more use: This thing is really stiff. I made a new more compact cabinet and this cable just won't bend and takes up a lot of room behind whatever it is attached to. I suggest angle adapters if space is an issue. Still works and looks like new.

I've had these cables for about a couple of years and when I initially plugged them into my LG LCD 37" and my PS3, they worked nicely. However, after 6 months I began to notice the signal would go out and I'd have to jiggle the cable to get it to work again. I realized that the weight of the cables were weighing on the HDMI ports of both my TV and PS3, loosening them. The cables would literally fall out of the port and I would have to position them just so in order to distribute the weight evenly. Eventually it came to the point where I couldn't start my PS3 up without jiggling the cables and repositioning them every five minutes to maintain a good signal. I ended up buying cheaper, more lightweight cables and am much happier for it.
