I compared AR Performance Series interconnect cables including optical ones with much more expensive counterparts, and I can only hear the slightest audible differences. I spent a thousand dollar on speaker cables and all the interconnects on my first home theatre system. After this experiment I shy away from a hundred dollar+ per foot-long interconnect for my upstairs AV system and the result is not that much worse than my main system downstairs.
