Yes. It worked on my Mac. Not sure about a Windows based laptop or PC. WARNING- this headset stopped working for several of us recently. (Read the reviews). The sound quality diminishes after a few weeks (which is a wiring problem). On my headset, the wires came out and the ear pieces hurt my ears after an hour of use.
First, check you pc tower for a small, round hole (jack) with a headphones icon next to it. Normally by your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. They're often green. If not, check the back of the computer and just plug it into the green jack. I hope that helps.
No the microphone doesn't speak into the earpieces. I don't know if you can connect to CD player because I never tried that. I would assume you could because the microphone doesn't have to be on to hear from the earpieces.
A microphone is hardware, and in this case fairly unsophisticated hardware. What you have is a very basic audio in/out setup that is almost, but not quite, standardized over most computer hardware. It will work fine with your Mac. It's not an obscure enough hookup to balk at one of the top two types of personal computers out there.
