Book Description

November 2, 2001 0333945484 978-0333945483 Revised
Many acquisitions fail yet acquirers continue to make the same mistakes: poor planning, lack of communication and mishandled implementation. In this fully revised and updated edition, including a new chapter on new technology and e-commerce acquisitions, Nancy Hubbard provides a six-stage planning process for acquisitions. She sets out their trends globally, and reasons for success and failure. The result is an insightful and unique guide to the process and pitfalls of acquisition strategy and implementation.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Reviews from the first edition: 'Acquisition: Strategy and Implementation is an excellent book...read it now rather than waiting to hear that your employer is acquiring another company or is being acquired.' - Ambassador 'I found myself nodding in agreement and mouthing the occasional 'Aha!' as I read, and I think other HR professionals will do the same...I found a wealth of good advice, tools and checklists here...readable, clearly laid out and packed full of good practical advice. It is essential reading for anyone who is involved in, or contemplating a merger or acquisition and I, for one, will be keeping it close to hand.' - Martin Hayton, HR Director, Cable & Wireless Communications, in People Management 'Very readable...an indispensable handbook on a subject affecting more businesses and stakeholders every year.' - The Director 'A well-researched and clearly-written guide to successful acquiring.' - Roger Carr, Chief Executive, Williams PLC 'Everything you want to know about acquisition explained with clarity and with perception for both the practising manager and the aspiring academic.' - Professor John McGee, University of Warwick 'Nancy Hubbard's excellent study provides [an] interesting assessment of the way people behave during an acquisition and gives clear practical guidance about the issues to be faced.' - Sir David Rowland, Deputy Chairman, Natwest Group 'Nancy Hubbard's very detailed research of good and bad acquisitions, matched with consulting experience, shows what can go wrong and how to get it right.' - Professor John Purcell, Bath University

5.0 out of 5 stars The good the bad and the ugly, February 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Acquisition: Strategy and Implementation (Macmillan Business) (Hardcover)
I read Hubbard's book while on the plane. I expected to put it down and get some shut eye but I couldn't. The book has five case studies in it and it was morbid fascination that kept me reading how badly several of these acquisitions went wrong. The tips and tools were excellent, much better than the marketing material that some of the other consulting firms have released in the name of M&A books. Although it is a British book, it translates well into American situations. I bought it because my boss told me that we had just bought a business; anyone in the same situation should do the same.
