5.0 out of 5 stars Just passed the ACRC Exam 640-403
Used this book along with extensive hands on lab practice to ace the exam. You will NOT PASS without hands on. There are numerous fill in the blank type questions which require you to know which one to use. This is where the book provides all the pertinent information as to how the protocols operate. Just common sense lets you know if Cisco wrote the exam of course...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
Sadly, like most books from cisco press this book was of little help. Although, I did find the CD to be helpful with other study guides (Exam Cram) I actually read the Exam Cram for ACRC and passed the Cisco practise test that came on the cd rom. I do not like to be critical of cisco, since I'm focusing my career around them, but this book like other cisco press...

Sadly, like most books from cisco press this book was of little help. Although, I did find the CD to be helpful with other study guides (Exam Cram) I actually read the Exam Cram for ACRC and passed the Cisco practise test that came on the cd rom. I do not like to be critical of cisco, since I'm focusing my career around them, but this book like other cisco press books, and quite frankly like their tests, seem to be more impressed with themselves and how cleaver they are then the material at hand. The three stars are for the cd that came with it. :-)

2.0 out of 5 stars Huge number of errors, March 27, 2000

Some sections are very good, but others are awful. Cisco Press really rushed this one to the market? Do they hire proof readers who have a clue?

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the help I was looking for, December 22, 1999
This review is from: Acrc Exam Certification Guide (Textbook Binding)
The book proclaims itself to be the perfect way to help you focus your studies and keep you on the "right path". Boy, nothing could be further from the truth, I felt more unfocused than i ever did after going through the book. There is nothing wrong with the actual tech info, but the book doesn't organize the info efficiently, it's a meandering, jumbled mess of info.....Get to the point! Streamline it! Didn't care for the study questions either. I would have given this a 2 star, but the CD of study-questions, even though there are some questionable answers there, was suprisingly good, given that it came with this mess of a book

I was pumped when I first bought this book. I really thought it was going to help me focus my studies, but it didn't deliver. Although I passed the ACRC Exam this week, this book only helped to solidify my knowledge from the ACRC Book. I do not suggest you purchase it if you already have the ACRC Book (which is excellent, 5 stars).

Just common sense lets you know if Cisco wrote the exam of course CCIE's would write more informative books. Don't just memorize and forget, learn it once and brush up those skills for the future. When faced with a network outage knowing the material will SAVE YOUR JOB.

4.0 out of 5 stars It works, May 11, 2000
This review is from: Acrc Exam Certification Guide (Textbook Binding)
I used only this book and passed the test. It was not just easy reading. I answered all questions in Q&A sections, test examples etc. But my score was just a bit above the limit (805 and 790). Probably it's not the best book but it works. I think if somebody failed test probably it's because the test is very tough and I guess any 500 pages tutorial is not enough to pass it easy. Take this test very seriously. Instead of looking for the best book try to use all available sources of information.

2.0 out of 5 stars spend your money elsewhere, March 9, 2000
This review is from: Acrc Exam Certification Guide (Textbook Binding)
I wish I had chosen to spend my time reading something else. The only redeeming elements of this book are the scenarios and the end of chapter quizes.

The presentation of the material is frustrating to say the least. The author oscillates between useless fluff (8 pages on classes of IP addresses) and misses important details needed to understand examples (e.g. mentioning commands executed via access lists that aren't shown).

Not at all up to the quality I'd come to expect from the Cisco ACRC and ICRC books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Supplement For ACRC And Other Exams, March 7, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acrc Exam Certification Guide (Textbook Binding)
If you're looking for a "one-stop" ACRC book, this is not what you want. However, if you want a book that does a good job of reinforcing your ACRC skills, this is an excellent buy.

The CD that comes with it is a better indicator of ability that those CDs you see for sale on the net at $200 +. I'm not much on practice testing myself, but this CD even impressed me.

Otherwise, I felt that the book did a pretty good job illustrating concepts presented in Laura Chappell's ACRC book. I'd buy another of Clare's books. If you can handle this level of material as presented on the CD, you should be able to handle the exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better for those aiming for Foundation R/S Exam...., August 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Acrc Exam Certification Guide (Textbook Binding)
While the ACRC book by Laura Chappel should get your through the much dreaded ACRC exam, use this book to get yr concepts clearer. I'd recommend this book for those aiming for the Foundation R/S exam as well. The CD provides many questions that are thought provoking and can help you in a better understanding of the topics in the ACRC course.
