Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 4-5--In this excellent offering, Morley uses an almost episodic organization, with each spread detailing a different segment of Lewis and Clark's adventure. One example is entitled "In Sight of the Rocky Mountains," which summarizes a particular piece of the explorers' journey, with interesting facts about the period scattered around the page in comic-book fashion. The information is accurate and Morley does not sugarcoat the many difficulties of the voyage. Antram's superb watercolor illustrations are quite detailed, with an average of six paintings per page. The table of contents, glossary, and index are easy to use. The format of this book, combined with easy readability and engaging art, is sure to win the approval of children. This title complements Rosalyn Schanzer's How We Crossed the West (National Geographic, 1998).

This review is from: Across America: The Story of Lewis & Clark (Paperback)
This book is written for 5th or 6th+ grade. It is 29 pages of information beginning with how they were chosen, preperations for travel, and a detailed information on each leg of the trip. There is an illustration on each page, 1-2 paragraphs, and a timeline that runs on the top & bottom of the page with an illutration/date/and description. Informative, but does not read like a story.
