4.0 out of 5 stars Good read April 21, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a pretty comprehensive account of the journey across the Louisiana territory by the famous explorers. Primarily quotes from the journals with minimal editorial commentary to clarify or inform. Enjoyed it and learned much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lewis & Clark, true American adventurers October 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book provides an insight into the hearty and adventurous spirit of these explorers and an understated glimpse of the difficult tribulations experienced. The romantic fascination of the expedition has now been replaced with a profound respect and sense of awe for the perseverance, resourcefulness, and true grit of the party of explorers.
I am glad that I read the book and I now have a much greater appreciation of what those explorers accomplished.

This is one book that you won't want to put down if you have an interest in the history of the United States of America or even if you are just looking for something good to read.
The accounts are vivid. You can almost experience first hand the exciting adventure. You almost feel as if you were with them on this amazing expedition. The details are fascinating. Their encounters with the bears are so well written that you will want to join in with them in seeking a safe place to escape for fear of your life.
It is a free download. What more could you ask for? I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great in-depth history May 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Grabbed me from the first few pages. The writer relies heavily on Lewis and Clark's journals, using their own words to convey their experiences. This brought me closer to the story, experiencing what they saw and felt first hand. Sacagawea does not get a lot of ink in this book, but that is ok. The author covers the trip well and wraps it up with brief but informative notes on where Lewis, Clark and even Sacagawea's son end up.

Very good read. I highly recommend it!

Great read for the history buffs. especially since iI read the life of Jefferson prior to this read. His influence in discovery and the far west was the impetus for this venture.
