Beau is a wonderful leading lady!,
By Avid-Reader (NYC, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Across a Moonlit Sea (Mass Market Paperback)
I have no complaints when it comes to this book. Beau is a excellent heroine. I grow tired of leading heroines depending on a guy for everything, even though they say their independent. That is definetly not the case with Beau, shes intelligent, witty and passionate. She does her job to the T so no one can say she didn't earn her palce on the ship. She has a tongue thats quick and can sometimes land her into trouble but thats part of her charm. Across a Moonlit Sea was the first book I read by Marsha Canham, and when my copy got lost, I had to buy another one, cause I couldn't get the story out of my head! This is a serious page tuner, and a book I often pick up when I want a guarenteed good read. I'm now searching for more books by this talented author!

Dante's Sea,
By A Customer
This review is from: Across a Moonlit Sea (Mass Market Paperback)
When I started reading this novel I got hooked in about five (5) minutes. This is a must read novel. Marsha Canham puts everything you need to make an exiting combination of romance, adventure, a love-hate relantionship, laughter and of course what is a romance novel without sex (let me tell you this woman has a very fertile imagination, if not an adventurous love life!). I loved this novel so much that is one of the many that I re-read every few months and I don't tire of reading it. I found myself wishing to be the adventutous Isabeau and hoping to find the dashing Dante. Everyone that loves adventure and a great romance, and a damselle that is not in very much distress, must read this novel. It will capture your heart for ever.

A Pirates Delight,
By C. S. "pirate lover" (Roseville, Ca. United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Across a Moonlit Sea (Mass Market Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book. I think Marsha Canham did a great job of writing this book. There seemed to be a few facts in the story that I believe were incorrect, but no big deal to me. Her discription of all the characters was wonderful; especially the cook. It actually made me laugh out loud. Her description of the ship and it's manoeuvres seemed right on. This book was adventurous, humorous and sexy enough for me to truly not want it to end. I have never kept a book with the intent of ever reading it again, but I do not want to part with this book just in case. I love pirate stories and this one did not disappoint me at all. I hope you find it as enjoyable as I did.

The Pirate Wolf Series, Book 1 and Book 2,

This review is from: Across A Moonlit Sea (Pirate Wolf series) (Kindle Edition)
Across a Moonlit Sea is book 1 of the Pirate Wolf Series featuring Isabeau Spence and Simon Dante. The Iron Rose is book 2 of the series which features their daughter Juliet Dante and Varian St. Clare. Isabeau is the daughter of Jonas Spence and the famed Black Swan. When her path crosses with Simon Dante, whom they take aboard their ship, sparks fly and the battle of wills is tested. Both characters are strong in spirit and attitude. The Iron Rose continues the series when their daughter, Juliet, captain of the Iron Rose, rescues an attacked ship and brings Varian St. Clare, 12th Duke of Harrow to meet her father as he has been entrusted with a message for his from the king. Varian must prove himself to Juliet is he ever expects to win her heart. Both books are fabulous for historical mysteries. If you are tired of the same historical mystery genre, this series will enthrall you!

England's Sea Hawks and Romance on the High Seas--Wonderful!!,
By Regan (San Diego) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Across a Moonlit Sea (Mass Market Paperback)
Marsha Canham has done it again! This romance set in the time of Queen Elizabeth's "sea hawk" captains who ruled the seas with her tacit approval and disturbed the building Spanish armada, features a wonderful heroine, Beau (Isabeau Spence), a long-legged, red-haired, golden-eyed beauty of 20, who stole away to sea as a young girl to be a part of her father's crew on his merchant ship. She is fearless, independent and an adventurer who loves the life at sea--and with a secret talent that sets her apart. She has known betrayal in love only once but it turned her away from men. Tall, black-haired, blue-eyed French nobleman and sea captain Simon Dante, now a sea hawk for the British Crown, has also known betrayal in love and has no interest in marriage. He has his ship, a loyal crew and his love of the sea and he needs little else. Even his titles and many estates do not call to him. But Beau's spirit does. The fireworks between Beau and Dante begin almost immediately with her dagger pointed at his private parts. And they cannot seem to stay away from each other. I loved this book...the high seas...battles at sea...I could almost hear the seagulls and smell the ocean. And then, too, it has mystery, intrigue...and passion--oh, such sweet passion. Thank you Marsha for another great one. This one will get re-read and I could not put it down. [Post review note: I highly recommend the sequel, as well--The Iron Rose. It's the story of Juliet, Simon and Beau's daughter and Varian St. Clare, an English Duke. It takes place in the Caribbean...quite wonderful!]

Terrific, fast-paced adventure!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Across a Moonlit Sea (Mass Market Paperback)
Well written adventures that take place on the high seas are hard to find these days and this is definately one of the best. I LOVED Simon Dante. The scene in the cabin when he is massaging oil into his bruises! I could imagine seeing each stroke. The action sequences were stunning and so visual it was like watching a movie. Hey, Hollywood, why ISN'T it a movie?

This is my second Marsha Canham novel. I loved it as much as the first one and just downloaded my third one. The fighting scenes are so well described you feel as though you are there. Her dialogue between characters is superb and her love scenes leaving you sighing. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-written historical romance.

I'm a big fan of Marsha Canham's swashbuckler romances and so happy to see her books as ebooks. If you enjoy high seas adventure and a hero and heroine who are the perfect match for each other, then Across A Moonlit Sea is the book for you.

some of my favorite Canham characters yet,

This was the 6th Canham book I have read thus far, and I truly love her style: her dialogue, the wit, the plots, the characters and their adventures. It's just pure fun- nothing terribly enlightening, but certainly great entertainment. If that is what you are looking for, look no further.
Simon Dante and Beau Spence, hero and heroine of this book, were 2 of my favorites. I love stories with strong female characters. Some of Canham's previous heroines were privileged society flitters, about to be married off to some boring, dull, and vacuous existence, who eventually evolve, through their experiences, into something of substance. Beau Spence is not that. She begins with substance. She is the daughter of a sea-faring merchant, and part of the crew. She is feisty, but not out-of-control-feisty like Courtney Farrow from "The Wind and the Sea." She is smart, and valued for her intelligence as a cartographer and navigator as well as her other seamanship skills. She holds her own among the men, and never flaunts her advantage at being the captain's daughter. She is well-respected among the crew, and her father. Her relationship with Simon does not start with the electricity from an unexpected brush of skin, as do most of Canham's characters. Rather, they take their time building their trust, and Simon comes to respect her intelligence and skill on board the ship. She has no use for him - initially - and does not swoon and faint when he is within 2 feet of her- instead, she insists he stay away from her, and when they finally connect, she says "this cannot last." Finally, a female who has a spine and some sense of control over her own fate. Not that I didn't swoon a little myself when they finally do connect (Simon's propensity for ripping her clothes to shreds becomes quite comical...) - but the relationship seemed so much more realistic than some of Canham's other books. All in all, it's a Canham book I will re-read, most definitely - it was that much fun!

Another classic & amazing Canham story,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Across a Moonlit Sea (Kindle Edition)
Well I read my first canham story just a month ago but that was enough to make me a forever and loyal fan. I am not usually one to leave reviews or even read romance novels but Ms. Canham is an amazing author. She has strong poignant stories and the romance is a natural part of the story's plot. With my limited experience with romance stories I find most don't really have a story they are about bizarre and un-necessary mis-understandings between the hero & heroine to create tension & attraction.
So Hhw refreshing to actually write a wonderful & rich story and have a touching and amazing romance in its part of the plot. In this story I liked beau she was not the typical constantly nagging heroine these stories usually inspire. She was, capable, smart and lovable. I know she was very attractive from some of the narratives but my one wish was if Ms. Canham would have made her charms more obvious as she did the hero's. Dantes attractiveness was made wonderfully evident. It was wonderful to see a pirate who had class, a strong mind, beauty & animal charm. You really get the characters in her books which is what makes her stories magical. I loved loved this book but my favorite is still the wind & the sea. My plan is to review every book Ms. Canham has written because I want everyone to read her magnificent books. Buy every book she has written you will not be disappointed. I also read pride of lions, blood of roses and they are moving & disturbing stories. Her story really interested me in the Scottish/English wars and the love story here was also amazing with great characters. I hope Ms. Canham that your work has been recognized and you have recieved tons of awards & accolades for your books, your talent is un-paralled. (although Rona Sharon has written two wonderful stories that have an actual plot as well as a wonderful romance). However Ms. Canham's stories are un-paralled by any other author. I am impatiently waiting her future books. |
