I've bought several books on this argument and i think this one is the best one. It starts from ABC and is rich of usefull tips. It's technical enough to tell you why things happens but not enough to be boring. I love this book. Just a remarque for the next edition: too many pictures are black and white.

I'm new to painting and to acrylics. I've bought lots of books on the subject and this is one of the best. It has a very thorough review of materials and then goes thru each acrylic technique in some detail (thin washes, opaque, textured).

My only reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that too many of the pictures are in black and white which seems ridiculous for a book about painting.

But the quality of the contents more than make up for that one shortcoming. A great book to learn more about painting with acrylics.

I'd suggest also buying a book with technique demonstrations... I have bought several but am still searching for the perfect book.

This book has wonderful photos and plenty of information. I learned new techniques and I've been oil & water painting for 30 years ! I think it's great for anyone beginning in acrylics.

I actually got this book as a Christmas present. At the time I knew very little about acrylic painting, but once I started reading it I became very interested in the subject.

Blake begins by discussing the pros and cons of acrylic painting as well as a brief history. The chapters that follow go over the basic tools and several basic techniques ranging from easy to complicated.

It is a very comprehensive guide to arcylic painting, complete with 32 plates in full color and 125 black-and-white illustrations.

This book currently , is sadly out of print .I've seen quite a few and this really is the best one .The coverage of techniques , methods, materials is very thorough.This is not a "how to paint a sky " "paint a tree" techniques type of book.Books like that are for those interested in making crafts a la Bob Ross or Donna Dewberry.This one shows actual useful techniques available to the artist intent on creating art with acrylic paint.The paintings shown are excellent and while several reviewers have complained that there are too many B&W plates please understand that this is a reprint of an older book .A long time ago color printing was quite prohibitive and really is still very expensive today.In order to get books to people at a reasonable price they elected to print most of a book's photos in B&W and have only some in color. Black and white or not the artwork is really good and you shouldn't let it deter you from getting this .Please drop a line to Dover publications and ask them to reprint this again.

Excellent publication providing advice and inspiration for the beginer as well as the more experienced painter
