The transparent clear acrylic sheet has a standard tolerance and meets Underwriters Laboratories UL 94HB specifications. Acrylic is a lightweight, tough plastic that offers transparency similar to that of glass.
Plastic refers to a group of synthetic or semi-synthetic materials that have been engineered to achieve specific properties. The most notable characteristics of plastics are its low weight, machinability, corrosion resistance, and typically good thermal and electrical insulating properties. Certain plastic grades also offer optical transparency similar to glass, low-friction or self-lubricating surfaces, and exceptional impact resistance. Depending on their properties, certain plastic grades can be used as alternatives to metal, glass, and ceramic. Unlike metal, plastic may experience creep, which is deformation caused by longtime exposure to a constant load.
Tensile strength, used to indicate the material’s overall strength, is the peak stress it can withstand before it breaks. Corrosion resistance describes the material's ability to prevent deterioration caused by atmosphere, moisture, or other medium. Wear resistance indicates the ability to prevent surface damage caused by contact with other surfaces. Toughness describes the material's ability to absorb energy before breaking, while hardness (commonly measured as indentation hardness) describes its resistance to permanent surface deformation. Impact resistance is the measure of a material’s ability to absorb a shock of energy before breaking.

This acrylic sheet fits the bill perfectly! It looks and feels exactly like glass. The only flaw is a chip in one corner edge -- not large enough to be too visibly noticeable but jagged enough to cut a finger. So I'll just put some clear gel-like glue there to soften out the sharp edge.
And I'm going to order another sheet for another furniture piece. Awesome stuff!
Mr. Nibbles chewed through it later that night and ran away but I don't blame the plastic for that. I do, however, blame the dog for eating him.
A lot cheaper than buying a pre-made screen protector and highly recommended for those who have kids and LED/LCD/Plasma TVs.
I did not measure the thickness of it, so I'm assuming it's correct and for my application a mm or two was pretty much a non issue, though it was not square. Since I was cutting it to a smaller size, this was not an issue, though if you are purchasing it to fit as is it would be. I would order it a bit larger than needed and that way if there are flaws on the edges or it's not cut straight, you have some room to work with it.

Came exactly the right size and without any scratches. Crystal clear. Note: if you're using this as I did (for an aquarium lid) it is a bit thin. Read morePublished 15 months ago by Eric Locken
This item came exactly as described with just a few small chips on the edges. I can see how it could come more chipped and/or cracked, so if you don't want a hassle, just order a... Read morePublished 16 months ago by Gwen N.
