I have owned this book for a few years now. I finally decided to write a review because I have found no art education book better than this one. As the years go by, I respect this book more and more. It is truly a fount of knowledge. Mr. Blake really, really knows what he is talking about. Despite having purchased many how-to painting books over the years since I purchased this one, I find myself going back to this one, time and time again. The only downside to this book is that... similar to all other art education books published prior to the year 2000 or so... most of the photos are in black and white. Every book written by mister Blake garners superlative reviews (not just from me, but from everyone) with the consistent caveat that most of the art work is presented in black and white. If the publisher were to republish this exact book, but with the other ninety percent of the photos in color, it would be a huge seller. Were it not for the issue of black and white artwork, this book would easily garner the full five-star rating. There is no better book on acrylic paints used in the manner of watercolor.

Shorter paperback version not the hardback expected. Also, water damaged lower 1/4 of pages in last half of book - useable but not condition expected either. Arrived in good time.
