5.0 out of 5 stars Best Album of 2005
This album has sixteen amazing tracks that each stand alone. But in my opinion, the album is an experience and every song flows together beautifully.

From What I Once Was- 9/10- This song has great piano and very good lyrics. Daniel Victor's voice is not the best on this album but he sounds great. A good track to start the album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh
I don't usually write these things, but I've read some of the comments and I really disagree with those people who've given this album high marks. The guys/gals saying "every track is unique" or some version of that are seriously full of it in my opinion - I've listened to it twice over and I remember only two tracks: #12 (The Grace - really great song and the reason I...

Angels & Saints- 8/10- I really like the music in this song, the drums especially. Chris Gadon's voice reminds me of Thom Yorke's (Radiohead), without sounding too much like him.

Age of Consent-10/10- A great cover of a great song. One of the more upbeat songs here, sung by 311's Nick Hexum. Nick's voice is great on this track, and it sounds nothing like 311's music. The perfect song to sing along to while driving with the windows down.

Ending of a Story-10/10- This song is, in one word, epic. Chris Gray has the kind of voice that gives you chills and the music and background vocals accompany him very well. The song features one of my favorite lyrics: 'And in the end, I'll die and you'll descend'

Return Our Lives-9/10- This song sounds a little electronic and the music is a bit repetitive. The chours is also repetitive and the song drags at the end a little too long. If it wasn't for that, the song would get 10 out of 10. But on the other hand, Judah Nagler's voice is refreshingly original and steals the song away from the music. I do love the way the song ends, with just his voice.

I Hope Your Heart Runs Empty-10/10- This is my favorite song on this album. It has some of the best lyrics on here, sung to perfection by Scott Anderson of Finger Eleven. He has a starkness to his voice that is so breathtaking you don't even notice the music behind it.

A Littlepiece- 10/10- My second favorite song. In my opinion, the best lyrics I have ever heard and very good music backing them. Marco Difelice's voice stands out above all the rest on the album and he delivers the song beautifully.

This Longing-10/10- I really love this song, mostly because I can personally relate to the lyrics. This is the type of song that is meant to be heard with headphones on and with your eyes closed. The ending is especially well done, with the background vocals converging seamlessly with Daniel Greaves'. I love the music on this track, it is probably the best on the album.

Of All The Things You've Done Wrong- 10/10- A shorter but brilliant song that makes me want to cry every time I hear it because the lyrics remind me of war. Nathan Larson's voice is incredible and absolutely breathtaking.

Tired Of Saving Souls-9/10- Another 'upbeat' track. This song has a great flow to it, and good music. John Campsey has an impressive vocal range that shines above the rest of the song.

How Could I Survive-9/10- The shortest song on the album. The song has a really great beat and good lyrics. Another good song for driving. Sharky Laguana has a unique voice that makes this song stand out.

The Grace- 10/10- What can I even say about this song? Words really can't convey it, you really just have to hear it. This is the song that introduced me to NWL and for months it was the only song I'd listen to, without giving the others a chance. It is that good. Dallas Green's voice is hands down the best on the album, the lyrics are meaningful and the music is amazing. Just hear it.

First Days of Spring- 10/10- Another epic track, this one featuring Hum's Matt Talbot. The music stands out on this song more than any other track on the album but it doesn't overpower the vocals.

Liar- 10/10- A well written song that I can relate to personally. Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace sings with more passion on this track than anything OLP has ever done. His voice is impressive as always, and he has one of the best vocal ranges I've ever heard.

Life Is A Dead Scene- 10/10- I love the lyrics to this song, and Todd Kerns' voice is stunning. I still get chills every time I hear this song.

Our Final Hymn- 10/10- This song is very good, but I have to admit I was disappointed. Jimmy Gnecco's vocal range is underused on the track, alot more so than it is on Ours' albums. His voice really is amazing but you would never know it from this song. It is still a very good song, though, with good lyrics. The music doesn't really fit the lyrics, though. It get's 10 out of 10 for Jimmy Gnecco alone.

Overall, this album is incredible and I highly, highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates well written music and a wide variety of stunning vocalists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly Ethereal, March 30, 2006
This review is from: Act.1 Goodbye Friends of (Audio CD)
I was first introduced to Neverending White Lights when my favorite radio station (89X in Detroit) started playing "The Grace." Well I absolutely fell in love with that song so I took a chance on the CD which ended up being pretty expensive due to its obscurity. But the cost was COMPLETELY worth it! I just got it yesterday and I've already listened to it at least a dozen times. The music is truly beautiful and each song seems to add a unique yet complimentary hue to the album as a whole. If you love well-written and well-crafted music and enjoy being able to listen to an entire CD without skipping tracks, this is definitely a must have album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally an Album that's good from beginning to end.........., January 15, 2006

This review is from: Act.1 Goodbye Friends of (Audio CD)
In today's music world, when you buy a CD, you buy it for the one or two songs you've heard on the radio, and you hope and pray that the rest of the CD has at least one song that you'll like. Hence the reason why downloading is becoming much more popular. Because this cd is an import and they don't have it available on WalMart, I took a chance and bought it. I had heard "Age of Consent" and "The Grace" on the local Detroit radio station, and loved both songs. The CD is a compliation of various lead vocalists with the actual music created by Windsor native, Daniel Victor. It's one of those cds where you can listen from the beginning to the end and not have to skip through anything. When you buy it, I recommend playing it on a long car drive or through a study session. Although, each song has a different vocalists, each song blends in with the next. Each song does have its uniqueness and its own sound. It's one of those cds in which there isn't one popular song on it, each listener will have their favorite song.
This CD is also not radio friendly, what I mean is is that you won't be seeing any music video on MTV or VH1 anytime soon, it's different than the commericially driven music of today's generation. It's not one of those CDs you buy for one track. It's one of those albums that you will fall in love with and want to share with your friends. I highly recommend that you take a listen to the samples, and if you enjoy this type of genre, to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!, February 11, 2006
This review is from: Act.1 Goodbye Friends of (Audio CD)
First of all, this album is nothing but amazing. I was introduced to the song "The Grace" and immediately loved the song, and still loved it after the 100 times I listened to it that day. I decided to purchase the cd and was pleasantly suprised that the whole cd is full of amazing songs just like "The Grace". Another song that I really liked aswell was "A Littlepiece". The music and songs on this cd have a weird way of getting inside of you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Refreshing, January 14, 2006
By
This review is from: Act.1 Goodbye Friends of (Audio CD)
When I first heard about this album, I expected it to be interesting, but probably not that great, because I know some of the lead singers on this album are leads in Screamo type bands... and I wasn't looking forward to that.

Then I actually listened to the album, over and over, because that's how many times it takes to soak it all in and remember who sings what. My favorites are "The Grace" featuring Dallas Green, and "A littlepeice" featuring Marco Difelice.

This album is definitely worth the money. All of the music is great seperately, and yet it makes the album a whole, and I can't see it being on another album by these artists. I feel this album had to be done, and I'm so very glad it was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally...the album I've been waiting for, December 12, 2005
By
This review is from: Act.1 Goodbye Friends of (Audio CD)
My last favourite album was Brand New's Deja Entendu. This blows that one out of the water.

Daniel Victor not only gives his listeners quality music, he was nice enough to include a whopping 16 tracks on the album.

I would recommend this album to anyone I know with an appreciation for music.

BUY IT

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant and Empowering Album, November 14, 2005
This review is from: Act.1 Goodbye Friends of (Audio CD)
"Goodbye Friends of the Heavenly Bodies" is a mix of Coldplay, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Tears for Fears, Erasure & Depeche Mode's slow songs, and a heaping tablespoon of 80's\90's power pop. All of these sounds come out because of the fact that every song has a different lead singer, with Daniel Victor being the unifying force. In addition, most of the songs are collaborations or written by someone else, adding to the diversity.

This CD is mellow overall, only reaching head-bobbing pace on occasion. Yet there is a lot energy seeping through the melody. Much of the lyrics have that slightly-overcooked aching thing going on, but the words fit the sound, so I doth not protest. Finally, the album is surprisingly fluid given the divergent talent and voices.

As far as individual tracks are concerned, I'm fond of "1. From What I Once Was", "4. Ending Of A Story", "8. This Longing", "11. How Could I Survive", "12. The Grace" & "14. Liar". I didn't feel like there were any throwaway or filler tracks, which is always a welcome sight in modern music albums. However, there aren't really any particular songs that fit the standout/single class, preventing a defining moment on the CD for me.

Overall, I'm happy with this CD. I would have liked a few faster paced tracks, but I understand that Victor was going for certain theme. I think that anybody looking for a CD that is good for a rainy day (think Queensryche's "Silent Lucidity") or want to step it down a notch from the alternative scene will really enjoy what this album has to offer.

As a completely pointless side note, it's funny to me that this CD is considered an import even though it only comes from Canada (ok, I live 100 miles from the border...)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Alone...., April 5, 2011

"Alone...Where I'm not alone"

Most of us bought this CD for "The Grace" which is one of the best song I've heard in the past five years. Those of us in the Detroit area have been hearing "The Grace" and "Age of Consent" on 93.9 The River and 89X for a few years now (Detroit is a stone's throw from Victor's home in Windsor, Ontario which is also where these radio stations are located). I'm enjoying the rest of the album too now that I finally got around to buying the album. I'll give this album 5 stars with 4 of them going to the amazing Dallas Green track.

Trivia: Dallas Green confirmed, during an interview at the 2008 NXNE festival with DJ Dave Bookman of Toronto's CFNY-FM, that he was indeed named after the famous major league pitcher/manager of the same name. He stated that although he was born on Sep 29, 1980, he had gone without a name at first.. His mother was considering naming him Graham-Todd Green, but his father had bet on Philadelphia Phillies during the 1980 World Series that October and, after the team won, his parents decided on the name Dallas after the Phillies' manager. The ex-manager's nine-year-old granddaughter, Christina-Taylor Green, was killed in the 2011 Tucson shooting. Her interest in government prompted a neighbor to take her to the event with congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords. Green, after receiving the news of his granddaughter's death, said that this was the worst thing that has ever happened to his family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not sure this even qualifies as a review..., November 7, 2009
This review is from: Act.1 Goodbye Friends of (Audio CD)
... but this album is so focused on evoking emotion, I don't know how else TO review it. It becomes tied in with your life.

What can I say? I bought this album early in 2006, the year my husband died. At the beginning of the year, with nothing wrong, I thought the album was overwrought and wasn't interested in anything but "The Grace." Before the end of the year, it was serving as both a soundtrack and a rope to pull myself through the grieving process. I don't think everyone is going to enjoy it - a dear friend of mine refers to it as "that emo album you insist on listening to" - but if it resonates with you, it's REALLY going to resonate with you. Each song will mean something a little different to each person who hears it. I can only state what it means to me, and I'll try to keep it to less than a novella by sticking to the ones that really get me:

"The Grace" brings everyone in. Dallas Greene has a most amazing voice to pair with the tragic music that Daniel Victor is so fond of making... the song makes the most of the beauty that can be found in the face of sadness. Like many, I expected the entire album to be woven with his voice and was initially very disappointed.

"This Longing" was the second one to get me. I know it's not the aim of the song, but it strikes the same chords as music in church did when I was a kid, evoking the longing for spiritual depth that revisits one on and off throughout life. Someone said this song is epic; I agree.

"I Hope Your Heart Runs Empty" is both a descriptive and misleading name. It takes listening to the entire song to realize how. For me, there will always be a lump in the back of my throat when I hear the lyrics.

And then comes "The First Days of Spring." The overall tone of the song seems to be breathlessly hopeful as a bleak season draws to a close and new growth promises to begin. I have to admit, as nice as "Liar" is, I usually stop the album after this song. At this point in life, after all the self-induced angst of revisiting the experience through the album... I just need the walk down memory lane to end in a place that's at least a little brighter. YMMV.

I am not much of a album reviewer-- I have no interest in rating each song and blah blah. I just want to mention that this CD is $9.95 on Itunes.
