If you are into extreme music, you cant go wrong here.
Kerry Ledbetter
The cd really does have a lot of very good and memorable music if listened to for what it's worth.
LeftManOut
Dallas's voice is phenomenal and outperforms the new singer Spencer.

What may surprise you is the shear intensity of this band. Not just live (though they are a sickening live act - yes, the blood is real), but simply in the songs themselves. Six songs? Yes. Short album? No. These songs are loooong and varied. The longest song clocks in at 10:40. The songs are like miniature classical compositions only composed of sheer brutality - this comes from someone who has a good classical music education, by the way. Musically, they mix mostly hardcore and death metal, but also some black metal influences. Vocally... well... Dallas is the man. As crazy as it all sounds, you never feel lost or over your head when you are listening to this CD (assuming you are into extreme music in the first place). Alot of chaotic or technical bands tend to be such a musical overload that you get bored or cant keep up in the first place. "Act of Depression" is exactly the opposite. Their songs have actual movements to them that pull you along for the ride. If you are into extreme music, you cant go wrong here.

Underoath is a band that defines what most christian bands would love to sound like. From the heavy metal sound, and the insane lyrics that attract you. Underoath is a band that gives those hardcore fans a great time. The songs are long, but keep you asking for more.
From the badass intro of ''watch me die''. To the sick voice of dallas taylor. If your a hardcore metal fan. I honestly give you advice to listen to them. Regardless if thier a christian band.
Nothing would please you more than to get up and headbang to an awesome metal band like underoath.

I've seen these guys in concert. they are absolutely awesome. they will no doubt be nationally famous very soon. They are on Take Hold records which will also be famous soon. they are a great hardcore band and they are awesome guys. they put on a great show, are really entertaining and their music is of highest quality. they are also very spiritual, influencing people for Christ and inviting them into a relationship with him. they simply rock! get their cd, you won't be dissapointed.

I listen to this cd non stop. Every time i listen to it i hear something that i didnt the previous time i listened to it. The lead singer Dallas is sick. I would die to see them in concert. Pick up their new cd called CRIES OF THE PAST. Order it from takehold.com. Their new cd is suprisingly better than this one, but "act of depression" is still one of my favorite cd's of all time.

Upon first listening to "Act Of Depression", it's hard to believe that this is the same band that brought you "They're Only Chasing Safety" or even "Changing Of Times". This is coming from someone who likes both the old Underoath music, as well as the new. And to be honest I will say this album is not for everyone, especially those who are more accustomed to Underoath's new sound, or who are not fans of extreme music, because "Act Of Depression" is Underoath at their most volatile and devastating state of sound. While I still believe the band hadn't fully come into their own (that would happen on their next release "Cries Of The Past" though), "Act Of Depression" is great piece of metalcore, and if you are an open minded music fan then there is a lot about this release to enjoy.

"Act Of Depression" at first glance may seem like any other EP out there. It's only six songs. But to not call it a full length would be a big understatement, because the songs are mammoth compositions. Songs range anywhere from 7 to 10 minutes, and the cd itself it over 55 minutes long, much longer than most modern day band's full length's which contain anywhere from 10-12 songs. The music is extremely, extremely technical, and does not follow typical song structures. There are no repeated parts or hooks (and that's saying a lot when a song is over 10 minutes long) and if you are not used to unconventional music of this nature, it may be a big turn off at first. The cd features the original Underoath lineup of only four people: Dallas, Aaron, Octavio and Corey. This is one of the drawbacks of the cd as Chris Dudley, the keyboardist who is an important aspect of the band, would not join until the next release. This gives the album a much more stripped down feeling and sound.

I don't really know what to say bad about this album...or this band really. This album is a beautiful creation of underOATH that you really can't find anywhere except on this site and on eBay. But it's definetely a must have. Nice long songs with lyrics that will keep you thinking long after your done listening to it and music that would make anyone go crazy. The band is just amazing. Dallas Taylor is definetely the best screamer of them all and Aaron Gillespie is an awesome drummer (my favorite to be in fact). It's very well composed and very well played out. So try and find this album and GET IT! You so won't regret it.

This is definitely one of the best Metalcore bands there are, but don't get confused when you see everyone else use ,"Metalcore," on there newer stuff, because Metalcore and screamo are 2 different styles of music. This band defenitely went down the tube after the band slowly split up and new members arrived. It is definitely worth the money for the cd. It sounds similar to Zao. When I heard this cd it was over I had to buy it, but when "They're only chasing safety" came out I bought it, listened, and continued to throw it in the trash. I haven't yet heard, "Changing of times", but when I met the crew while they were in the middle of their third album I figured I wouldn't be disappointed. If someone who likes the first 2 cd's please let me know about the third.
