1.0 out of 5 stars Run away from ACT CRM software as fast as you can, July 15, 2011
This review is from: Act By Sage 2010 Multipack 5 User (DVD-ROM)
I own a small manufacturing business that used an older version of ACT for many years. Several years ago, we upgraded to the "latest and greatest" version that was the first one put out when Sage bought ACT. It was a disaster and we returned it to the local retailer we bought it from. Early last year we decided to make the plunge and either upgrade or choose another CRM software package as our business had grown significantly and was using multiple remote access stations. After spending much time reading reviews and talking with people, we decided that ACT 2010 had finally, no pun intended, gotten its act together and we bought several multi user licenses. Huge mistake. The ACT 2010 was not able to integrate the database from our earlier version of ACT 6.0. We spent countless hours trying to correct this problem, countless hours on the phone with ACT support, and finally ended up having to send the database out to an outside consultant to have the conversion completed. Even then, many records and attachments were lost. After many, many frustrating months and loss of productivity, we finally had the system up and running, but not with all of the original content of the records from the previous version of ACT. Then to add insult to injury, we started having synchronization issues with Outlook, Word and Excel when we upgraded from Office 2007 to 2010. We were able to patch it somewhat by installing 2007 on each pc, installing ACT 2010 and linking the two, and then doing the upgrade to Office 2010, but did not have all of the functionality. Countless calls to Sage finally produced the brutally honest answer that yes, they were aware that there were major incompatibility issues with Office 2010 and no, they had no intentions of correcting the problem. If we wanted the functionality and compatibility with Office 2010, we would have to wait until ACT 2011 came out and then upgrade once again - in less than one year's time. So, after two very bad experiences with ACT/SAGE, I'm kicking myself for not going with Goldmine or one of the other options for CRM software.
