Best CD ever,
This review is from: Act Your Age (Audio CD)
Thi is the most catchiest cd I have ever heard and I just can't get enough of it. Here's how I rate all the songs:Nowhere Slow- excellent fast paced punk song, very catchy 9.5/10 All That You Have- Probably my least favourite song with ska riff, but still quite good 8/10 She's Anti-Very funny song with a cool guitar riff and cool lyrics 9.5/10 Surfer Girl-Something very different from the rest of the album but a top tune 9/10 Last Nite Regrets- Best song so far, more serious than the previous four and one of the highlights of the album 10/10 Suffer-Another classic 10/10 Your Past- A much slower paced song but there's something about it that I love 10/10 Piss Off- The catchiest song on the album with a cool guitar solo to round it off 10/10 Grow Up -Fast paced cool song 9/10 Let Go- Another fast one, perhaps not that catchy 8.5/10 Bad News Blair- Very cool and catchy, one of the great tunes on the album 10/10 Kids- Ska riff on a ligth hearted song which is really effective 9/10 Wow, She's Dumb-This song is fast. catchy, cool and it has everything 10/10 Envy Me- Not as good as the rest but believe me you'll listen to it 8/10 Reflections- Something slow to finish the album 9/10 So basically this album is packed with good tunes that you'll want to listen to again and again. I recommend it if you like bands on Drive-Thru records as they're all amazing

Entertaining & fun punk,
By Rex Marksmanson "HEYO!" (Long Island, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Act Your Age (Audio CD)
The title of my review should pretty much sum it up, Home Grown delivers all the way on "Act Your Age". They are a nice change of pace from the usual punk scene, adding the more immature and fun side in, similar to groups such as Blink 182 and Less Than Jake. Funny but well thought out lyrics, catchy beats and great guitar and drum work really make this one complete package. Harder edged songs like "Nowhere Slow", "Suffer", "Grow Up" & "Reflections" really pump up the energy level. On the other hand fun songs such as "All that you have", "Last nite regrets", "Surfer girl", "P**s off" & "Your past" entertain you from start to finish. Any punk fan can really appreciate this great album by Home Grown.

Fun for the Kids,
By A Customer
This review is from: Act Your Age (Audio CD)
Homegrown has a fresh sound, extremely catchy lyrics, and a great sense of humor. "Surfer Girl" is the one of the best songs I've heard in awhile (at least since Blink gave us "Josie"). They definitely deserve a little more attention than some of their more well-known peers - thanks for an awesome CD!

An excellent album, but not as good as their first.,

This review is from: Act Your Age (Audio CD)
In my opinion, this album isn't as good as their first, "That's Business." But it all depends on what you like. If you're into Ska-Punk more than straight Punk, you'd probably want the first one. But if you're into Pop-Punk, you'd probably want to get this album. Still, it's an album worth having -- especially with songs like "All That You Have" with its nice blend of Ska and Punk, "Grow Up" with its angry lyrics, and "Wow, She Dumb" with its peppy music and humorous lyrics.

a CD with variety,
By A Customer
This review is from: Act Your Age (Audio CD)
Act your age is different from Home Grown's previous CDs, That's Business and Wussappenin', but that's because Home Grown have grown up in the last 2 or 3 years. They didn't change their music. They didn't sell out. They're just as good a band as ever, if not better. Their songs combine styles from different kinds of music. Adam Lohrbach and Johnee Trash, who write the songs, have different styles and they give Home Grown a kind of flexibility and versatility not found in most other bands. The songs on Act Your Age cover a wide span of topics, from appreciating things ("All that you have") to the ideal girl ("Surfer Girl") to teen angst ("**** Off"). Home Grown's best quality is their sense of humor. Johnee Trash has a funny way of combining angry lyrics and peppy music. It adds to the twisted side of his songs. Act Your Age is a definite buy if you want good lyrics, contagious music, and a band that knows how to entertain.

Most of you have no idea how good this album really is...,

...even the kids who gave it 5 stars.
What most of you don't know is that this band (circa '98-'99) was about the best thing going. They were signed to a brand new major label, one of the best live acts around (they're a shell of their former selves...), and had two great albums under their belt. One of those albums, "Act Your Age" pretty much defined the whole scene transition from ska/punk that was going on at the time--the album was perfect. It featured complex and intelligent guitar and bass arrangements, a drummer at the top of his game, and vocal melodies and harmonies that countless bands in the genre have tried to imitate since. The album itself is a journey, best listened to all the way through. Every song takes on a life of it's own and compliments the others well... Then the floor fell out from under them--their label went bankrupt and their drummer was diagnosed with a brain tumor effectively breaking up the band for a number of years. They've never been the same upon their return. I almost cried when they signed to Drive-Thru and started writing the crap commonly put out on that label. If you think they're a good live band now (they're not...), you should have seen them years ago. And to whomever shot down their lead vocals and proceded to cite autotuned crap like Blink666 and MXPX, you're either ignorant or just have a stick up your posterior. Also, as much as I like the Suicide Machines, you *have* heard their self-titled album, right? The dude's not a singer... I saw Homegrown for the last time in early '05, and I won't watch them again--my band could have played their songs better. Last I heard, Adam left the band too, so they're done...oh well I don't give too many albums 5 stars, this would be a 4.5...

My adolescence,
This review is from: Act Your Age (Audio CD)
I'm nearly 25...and this album was pretty cool when it came out and I was listening to so-cal punk rock ("real" punk rock). I truthfully think this CD is amazing. I hate drive-thru, and I'm a cynical old man who hates all the music that comes out these days. I think I could only appreciate this having listened to it as a new release in the late 90's. Their songs are incomparable to anyone else, and the harmonies blow my mind. It is so tight and natural. Maybe it is "Power Pop", but it is still good song writing. The later albums went downhill and are pretty bad. If you love perfect complex harmonies than listen to this!

the best Home Grown album,

This is the best of the Home Grown albums out there. Though Kings of Pop was great, I hope they stick to the style of Act Your Age. By far the best.
