This CD slowly builds a foundation for a true German accent, and steers you away from stereotypes. Covering everything from breathflow to tone and pitch, David pares the technique down to a few simple rules. He also has you repeat the exercise with a standard English accent, then the German to exaggerate the differences. The booklet is also very helpful giving you additional exercises, and phonetic cues. I purchased this with only one week to learn, and practiced about 1 hour a day with great results according to my friends who have German friends. It's also a lot of fun to be walking around the house saying the practice sentences like, "The blood under the bud vase was trouble for Gus" or "Ask any bashful man in Alabama and accept his answer".

This was a present for my husband, who appears as a Landsknecht mercenary soldier at Renaissance Faires. It is easy to use and he is learning fast.

I do a lot of community theater, and whenever I have to do an accent, I seek out the book and CD from this same series. I really like Sterns' approach, and this one was no exception.
