1.0 out of 5 stars A Little Something To Passover, March 15, 2008
My community theatre group was about to produce a play called "The Cemetry Club" for our March dinner theatre. The story concerns three Jewish widows who visit their husbands graves.

We wanted to try for authentic accents, so I purchased "Acting with a Yiddish Accent." The CD came with a small pamphlet giving suggestions on vocal inflections and tonal qualities. But, what good is the printed word when it comes to the actual flavor of an accent? Not much, unfortunately

The CD quality was good, but the subject matter was limited. It did try to provide cadence patterns and inflections, but it seemed to veer more into parody than actual speech.

This book helped me to perfect a Yiddish accent for the musical "Fiddler on the Roof". After going through the lessons, I'm more confident on stage, and the accent is lending so much more to my dialog. This is a wonderful book for anybody wanting or needing to learn a Yiddish accent. Haha, look at me going on about this book... a regular Yente. Mazeltov to Stern!

We are performing FIDDLER this year, and the CD has been very helpful to the actors in creating believable Yiddish accents for the various characters. This includes varying pitch and emphasis on syllables.
