5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for students and teachers of acting.
I HIGHLY recommend this book as a resource for teachers and students of acting and directing. It is clear, concise, accessible and thorough. Barton covers the basics of truth, technique, Stanislavski, warm-ups, physical life, vocal life, rehearsal etiquette, vocabulary, as well as hundreds of useful exercises. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This book contains nothing about offstage acting. It contains nothing about using acting techniques in everyday life. I gave my copy away.

In addition, there is a valuable list of scenes appropriate for student actors. My college actors grow tremendously through the application of Barton's simple, clear definition of the basics.

This was required reading for Drama 10b atSRJC It is a good study guild covering and outlining good prep work for charater work. It was also a good review for me in areas of observations and details of a person for study

5.0 out of 5 stars Improve your communication: with your audience, work, family, friends, September 11, 2010
This was a great read. I have been an active participant in Toastmasters International to improve my communication skills. But when I first opened Robert Barton's book - I couldn't put it down for several hours. I continue to study and practice the techniques presented in each chapter.

Do you know what a diphthong is? Have you tapped a word lately to enhance expression? These were skills I did not know. After a study of Barton's Acting Onstage and Off book, I have worked these and many other techniques into my vocal variety for my speeches and every day communication.

Best regards,
