4.0 out of 5 stars Will definitely add precision to your shot making, June 17, 2010
This review is from: Practice Pro Pocket Reducers (Misc.)
First off, and I can't figure out why, but at the time of this writing these things seem very difficult to get ahold of. Most of the websites I went to said "out of stock" for this item. I finally found a website (89billiardz.com) who appeared to have them in-stock, but it wasn't until AFTER I placed my order that I was notified that they were on back order and it took me 6 weeks to finally get them. I don't know if "Practice Pro" is still in business or they have manufacturing issues or what, but you would think these simple gadgets would be readily available.

Anyway, the Practice Pro Pocket Reducers were pretty straightforward to install. The springs were surprisingly tense, so you have to muscle them a little bit to get them in place but it's not too bad. Although, I did have some issues getting them to stay in the side pockets. Sliding them back deeper into the pocket seems to have fixed it.

I have a standard coin-op bar style table at home, and the pockets are huge, approximately 2 1/4 ball diameters wide. After installing the Pocket Reducers, the pockets are now roughly 1 1/2 balls wide, and even smaller on the side pockets. Only a half a ball of wiggle room is pretty damn tight!

Playing on them is a bit frustrating at first, you'll end up missing many of the shots you would normally make. Not only is it because of the obvious smaller pocket size, but the hard rubber corners are very unforgiving, bouncing off anything that hits them and making it very difficult to "cheat" the pocket. They force you to focus more and smooth out your stroke if you want to pocket balls. Very little tolerance for slop!

The high tension of the springs keeps them in place quite well, even after being pounded on by harder shots. You'll have to go around the table and re-adjust them from time to time, but I've yet to knock one out of the pocket. The only annoying thing is how the springs stick up over the pockets. This can create an awkward stance or bridge if you're shooting from over a pocket.

All in all, I would definitely recommend adding these to your practice arsenal. They have humbled me at home, but after playing on them for only a couple weeks, my accurancy has noticeably improved when I go out to play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Improves accuracy, October 22, 2011

The product was as advetised an excellent training aid. Properly positioning the pocket reducers takes a little bit time at first but no time after the first several times. While this does not replace shimming of pockets if does improve your game.

4.0 out of 5 stars practice, practice, practice, April 2, 2011

These things are very interesting. Difficult is the word that first comes to mind after one session. The way to use these is to shave about an eight of an inch off the inner facing (a belt sander works best). Additionally, these are really made for bar tables or other generous-pocketed amateur equipment; don't try to use these on your 9 foot Gold Crown or you are likely to abandon the project of trying to influence the direction of phenolic spheres rolling around on a piece of metamorphic rock covered with green cloth..
