2.0 out of 5 stars Could be better....
I bought the three pack of Action Verbs (Tapes 1,2, and 3). I feel that they could be better. They are not terrible, but when I compare them to Baby Einstein or So Smart, it is obvious that Bee Smart's quality is not nearly as good. It seems they spent more on advertising than on making the tapes as good as they can possibly be. For example, along with each cassette...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for language delayed children, July 31, 2002
By A Customer
These are simply fantastic tapes ... my 3-yr old son has a language delay/slight autism and within a week he had learned the 30 or so verbs on these tapes. He loves to watch them and even makes a special request for the tapes. He's taken the words he's learned and started using them in everyday life. For the first time he started requesting that we do things for him like "Smile!" "Cry" and "Wave". While they might not work for everyone they have been an amazing tool for us.

4.0 out of 5 stars My son has learned vocab from this, January 11, 2002
By A Customer
We have been showing the 5 videos in this series to my son since he was around one year old. Although he is not talking much yet, his comprehension is great and we think these videos have really helped. He knows almost all the words, and points to his favorites, makes appropriate sound imitations, etc. etc. While they appear a bit dull vs. the Baby Einstein series, he enjoys them just as much and has learned more from them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting First Language Tool, June 25, 2003
By A Customer
My daughter couldn't hear until she had tubes at 22 months. We started the Baby Bumblebee tapes soon after and her excitement was evident. I'm convinced her first understanding that words and objects went together came from this video....and quickly. She has responded so positively to the series that we've purchased more.

It's simple, repetative and includes the printed word for print awareness. Tolerable for Mom as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-verbal son is talking, March 25, 2003
By A Customer
My son is nearly three and getting help from the early intervention program for speech. This tape has helped him so much. At first he would cry when I put it on (he wanted to watch Monsters, Inc.), but now he loves Action Words and by the second day he was picking up verbs such as eat and using them appropriately. I am buying the next couple of tapes in the series and highly recommend them. The music is great too. But the thing that I like best is that they do not exhibit the visual flash patterns that most videos do, which keep kids addicted to the tv. They are soothing and can be used in the background and the kids can do other things and still be learning. Get the tapes!

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be better...., October 18, 2003

I bought the three pack of Action Verbs (Tapes 1,2, and 3). I feel that they could be better. They are not terrible, but when I compare them to Baby Einstein or So Smart, it is obvious that Bee Smart's quality is not nearly as good. It seems they spent more on advertising than on making the tapes as good as they can possibly be. For example, along with each cassette there is a pamphlet of advertising material for more bee smart tapes--but nowhere do they include a list of the action verbs for the tapes I bought. (I have to go to the web site for a list of the action verbs.)
Here is how each tape is set up:
Throughout each tape children are shown doing various actions. There are a few puppets, but 95% of the time it's children. There is no animation.
A voice says the action verb twice for each verb. This lasts about ten to fifteen minutes. Then the verbs repeat, and the voice says a sentence using each verb. There is classical music in the background, but it doesn't particularly match what is shown in the video.
There are NO breaks anywhere in the video. It justs jumps from verb to verb. This is very annoying as it makes it hard to watch with out little pauses between verbs.
The best things about these videos is that they do show various actions in various forms. Also, the kids are real kids, no actors. A baby wears glasses, which I thought was neat.
You have to decide if this is what you want for your kid, but personally I thought that this could have been done better. I prefer So Smart First Words much better (but So Smart doesn't have an action verb tape.)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best Reading Program Vedios!, September 3, 2005
By
Lily Liu (Maryland, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Action Words! 1 (DVD)
The bumble bee "Action words 1-3" videos are excellent. They helped my 18-mon son to speak and read greatly. Every word is so well illustrated in the vedio! The best part of them: My son loves these videos so madly and therefoer learned words from them so quickly!!! There are about 20 words in each vedio.

The "Motorized Madness" is also good, it has 10 machines such as "airplane, bulldozer, dump truck, backhoe loader, helicopter, bucket truck, boat, motlecycle, fire truck, and bus." It also explains each part of the machine, like the wings, propellers, engine, cab...

The baby bumble bee surely produce the best of the best infant and kids reading program vedios in the market--as good as Dr. Titzer's "Your baby can read 1-5" DVDs and Dr. Glenn Dorman's "How to teach your baby to read" book.

I love baby bumble bee's "Opposites", "Motorize", "Actions words 1-3" and "vocabulary builders 1-5" the most. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear vocabulary builder video, September 19, 2009
This review is from: Action Words! 1 (DVD)
When I was told my 2 year old needed to boost her vocabulary at her 2 year wellness check, I searched everywhere for vocabulary building tools. I found I can rely on some good children's videos. The Baby Bumblebee series is one of those. The words are presented clearly with children demonstrating the action. This helped my almost 3 year old understand the word meanings. Not as entertaining as the Baby Einstein - Baby's Favorite Places - First Words Around Town videos. She lost interest after 2 viewings. But good in vocabulary building. I found a new series called Brainy Yogis: Everyday Words that was also good in vocabulary building, but is Montessori-based. This video kept her interest a while longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Early Vocabulary Builder, January 30, 2010
By
This review is from: Action Words! 1 (DVD)
After some great results from repetitive viewings of the outstanding "My Baby Can Talk" signing video series I wanted to supplement my 20mo baby's vocabulary. The difficulty is finding a video that keeps her interest, has clear examples and is age appropriate. While "Action Words 1" doesn't give me that squeaky clean, upscale feeling the "My Baby Can Talk" series does (i.e. nice sets, immaculate hair on the models, softened nursery versions of classical music) it still has the warmth, fun and humor that any parent can appreciate. You can tell the children in the video are enjoying themselves and model a given word with the kind of honesty another child can find entertaining and worth sharing. When my daughter sees the other kids tickle eachother and laugh, she laughs and wants to try it out, which is how these videos should work. There are plenty of words on the video covered at different lengths and multiple examples. This is a great vocabulary builder for any child 6 months and older and an essential part of my collection of educational videos for my baby. I look forward to viewing the others in the series.
