Complete AD programming,
By Brian& Janet Arkills (Stanford University) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Active Directory Programming (Paperback)
This is the only book I've found which deals with ldap based programming of the AD. Every other one out there deals with ADSI, which is OK, but has some limitations. This book also deals with ADSI, but only as it relates to the AD (so other interface specific stuff like for IIS isn't included). Gil does a beautiful job of explaining concepts succintly, while giving a comprehensive treatment of the subject at hand. I approached this book as a beginner, facing a large directory synchronization project, and left feeling prepared to tackle the project. The examples more than adequately met my needs, and this book will serve as a handy reference guide for the next several months at least.

An excellent book,
By y0ink (États-Unis) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Active Directory Programming (Paperback)
This book is an outstanding resource for anyone writing to the ADSI in C++. It covers AD concepts, schema, and security, along with in-depth coverage of ADSI and LDAP. The sample code is outstanding. One of my favorite quotes from the book, prefacing a discussion of COM concepts... "I know Don Box, and I'm no Don Box". Gil is being humble here, as his book shows a real understanding of Active Directory, ADSI and LDAP, along with a writing style which conveys these ideas clearly and effectively. Highly recommended.

very good,

Covers all the essentials, and then some. A lot of good background material for people new to the subject, but not so much that it dominates the book. It then moves quickly onto more advanced areas, and hear its coverage is very good.

Excellent book,
By Robbie Allen (Raleigh, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Active Directory Programming (Paperback)
The book starts off with several concise and informational chapters on AD fundamentals before diving into detail on ADSI and LDAP programming. Very easy to read and logically organized. Code samples and explanations are well thought out and easy to adapt. I've had my copy almost 2 years and it is a great reference.

Great book for serious programmer,
By Obotchaman (Kearney, Nebraska) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Active Directory Programming (Paperback)
This book cleared up some gray areas not covered by other AD books, e.g. LDAP programming. The author has a thorough understanding of how AD works, not just the APIs on top of it. Each subject is covered in great depth but still readable. The last few chapters about LDAP programming are especially valuable. I highly recommend this book to serious AD programmers.

Great book,
By Luke Springleaf (Billings, Montana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Active Directory Programming (Paperback)
Covers everything you need to know in order to program for Active Directory. Contains an overview of how AD works, then follows with extensive treatments of ADSI and LDAP. Mr. Kirkpatrick obviously has done his homework and writes authoritatively on the subject. Kirkpatrick, who is also an avid tuna fisherman as well as a top-flight flamenco dancer, has done an outstanding job.

Awesome Active Directory Book,

This review is from: Active Directory Programming (Paperback)
Really awesome AD programming book. Covers all the basics of AD and ADSI and then dives into the LDAP API which all other authors try to avoid and dont cover well. You do not need any other AD programming books if you have this one.

Good coverage of LDAP and ADSI,

This review is from: Active Directory Programming (Paperback)
The best coverage of LDAP, ADSI and AD that I have come across. Topic are clearly explained and example source code demonstrates the concepts well. A lot of the information supplied is obviously available through MSDN, but the book is an easier and clearer reference to utilize. |
