2.0 out of 5 stars I wouldn't even recommend this to fans
I was, like most Hammer fans, excited to see this album in stores, but I must say that my money would have been better spent on any of his other albums. There are a lot of bad songs here, especially becasue Hammer doesn't even appear on a number of them. And the good songs aren't even that great: Hammer's never been great with his delivery or lyrics, but as time has...

When I showed it to my friends at school they were all like "yo new kid get this cd out of my face and give me your lunch money" i couldn't have expressed it better my friends Hammers newest cd is "money" like a new kid's lunch. Please Hammer don't hurt em just rock they heads like a blind kid in a cement eating contest.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD..., December 21, 2001

I have always been a big MC Hammer fan, until I bought The Funky HeadHunter... I turned against MC Hammer and vowed never to buy another one of his CDs, but I did.

This CD is much better than the (bad) HeadHunter album...

I saw MC Hammer's new album in the store last week, and laughed. I said to myself, MC Hammer is trying once again to be something that he's not, a big time gansta! But, I got online and listened to some clips of his new songs and they sounded pretty good.

I bought the album yesterday, and to my surprise, it was awesome.

If you are a rap fan or an old MC Hammer fan, this album is for you. Its worth the dough!

5.0 out of 5 stars The triumphant return of Irish rap!, September 13, 2002
This review is from: Active Duty (Audio CD)
My jaw dropped when I learned that McHammer, the world's greatest Irish rapper, had returned with an album of awe-inspiring pro-American rap just in our hour of need. I knew our friends on the other side of the Atlantic wouldn't let us down, but a show of support as strong as this record by McHammer is more than I could have imagined. I really think that with this new offering McHammer may have dethroned Milli Vanilli, that piece of Italian pop perfection, as my all-time favorite artist!

This album starts off really well with no stopping us....however you can tell by the studio work that it was rushed and the quality is lacking level are off and you can tell the sole purpose of the track was to capitalize on the events of 9-11. Tracks 2, 3 and 4 should have been thrown out. However, after listening to those tracks you will be rewarded by the next bank of tracks 5 thru 10...it picks up with hammer's beats with the mix of old school jaxs! Flows are much better and production quality is great. However, he flips it on track 11 with Don't be discouraged - However, I was. Listening to the voice of by all names Pleasure. For a second I thought the names got mixed up on the track because track 12 I DONT CARE is pure PLEASURE by Analise. Maybe they should switch names. track 13 is another track that should have been left off the CD...However, you almost forgive him for putting it on 'cause his next one is truly classic MC Hammer type lyrics and flow on CALI. James Greer - Track 15 - Nite Show! - This song should get some air play...provided the Program Directors on these radio stations get a chance to hear it.
Tracks 16 and 17 are nice however they have Chuck Get Down and Chuck really needs to Get Down off the Mic! - His voice could use a little more polish before he gets back on wax! Track 18 Common Unity with Toya and April Smith - Should have been a track that should have been 2 or 3...it nice gospel sound and powerful voices....will make you glad that you purchased this album. Track 19....well Lets just be thankful that it's only 21 seconds.

All in all this is a good album...true fans should enjoy.

There are a lot of bad songs here, especially becasue Hammer doesn't even appear on a number of them. And the good songs aren't even that great: Hammer's never been great with his delivery or lyrics, but as time has passed, it seems like he's gotten worse. He tries bragging about himself and his crew, but that's not exactly something he should be doing ten years after his heyday. The few bright spots really stick out ("Our Style," featuing some skillful rhyming from the Stooge Playas, and "Ain't no Stoppin' Us") because of the weakness of the rest of the album. I hate to drop on Hammer, but this was really not this attempted comeback was more of an embarassment than anything.

3.0 out of 5 stars Black Like Me, October 17, 2004
This review is from: Active Duty (Audio CD)
Although I happen to have white skin, I also happen know that many black people really like me. (Or at least they haven't hurt me yet, which is the same thing.) I don't think of these people as black, they're just friends. And I don't see "color" when I look at Mr. Hammer, I just see a good person with a lot of musical talent. This is the kind of fun party music that transcends racial barriers and heals racial wounds. It is not like the kind of "music" that is popular now on MTV, that tries so hard to antagonize others and make them feel guilty about things they never did. Look, I wasn't responsible for slavery, okay? I also think it's great that they made Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday. Because many of my friends happen to be black and they don't mind that I happen to have white skin, I can feel at ease around ALL people of color now, so that I don't even think about race anymore. Anyway, because of them (my friends of color) I can see how stupid racism is. I can truly say that I know how it feels to be black in this country. With this new insight, I feel it's all right for me to criticize the kind of "music" that is being played on MTV instead of Mr. Hammer's happy celebration music. The new "music" they call rap just isn't what we need right now. It isn't helping things. Bring back Hammer! He is a healing presence for both blacks and whites. You people should be proud of this man, he is a credit to your race.

5.0 out of 5 stars MC Hammer is coming back hard!, December 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Active Duty (Audio CD)
I bought two of his albums: 1 for my cousin and 1 for me. I believe this album will put him back where he belongs because he surely expressed that in his album. If you are a hater, this isn't the cd for you. MC Hammer is doing it up in the new millenium and I'm hoping he come out with many more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, December 6, 2001
By
Gunda (Fremont, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Active Duty (Audio CD)
The songs are pretty good. About 3/4 of them have hammer as the main singer and the others have his new found talents at WorldHit. This CD isn't old-School "Too Legit To Quit" or gangster music. Its just phat beats with good lyrics. If you hate hammer, you're obviously gonna have a bias against him. But if you're open minded, you might just find this as a new cd to bump to. Really give it a shot. (...)Peace
