The format of this CD-ROM program is a combination of aerial views, taken during a light plane flight, combined with ground photos and maps, and Burt's narrations. The flight begins at the north end of the San Francisco peninsula, with a brief visit to observe buildings in the financial district. Returning to the air, the flight follows the west coast of the peninsula to Daly City. On the ground the history of unstable slopes associated with residential construction in Daly City on the San Andreas fault over a 25 year period will be inspected. Back in the air, the flight picks up the San Andreas fault, following it south to the Almaden winery, with brief ground level stops. Shifting to the Calaveras fault at Hollister, several examples of tectonic creep will be seen. North of Hollister the flight route continues to follow the Calaveras fault, shifting to the Hayward active fault at Hayward, with ground visits in the community of Hayward. The Hayward fault will be followed to its end, travelling through Oakland, Berkeley, Albany and Richmond residential districts to Point Pinole. The "trip" ends in the town of Concord with evidence of creep on the Concord fault.

This review is from: Active Faults of San Francisco & Hollister (CD-ROM)
This CD consists of photographs taken from a Cessina (the wing tip appears at top of some pictures). There are brief, professional descriptions under the photos. CD includes maps & diagrams from a USGS phamplet & the magazine, "Geology". An analogy of "nice project" kept coming to mind. Photos and scans were 3-1/2" by 2-1/2". In order to see the detail, Zoom was required: however, a lot of detail was lost through enlargement. I would suggest a check of geologic sites on the Internet before investing in this CD. Nice try but very much overpriced.
