This review is from: Active Server Pages In Plain English (In Plain English (IDG)) (Paperback)
I originally was looking for a good ASP reference to replace my ancient VBScript book. I spent a few hours looking through about 30 possible books before I settled on this book, and I'm glad I did choose this one.

Like many of the intermediate-advanced level references, the reference portion is organized primarily by objects. You look up the object you want to learn about, it gives you pretty detailed info on each of the methods and properties. This is great, except that I'm really only just getting into using objects. No problem! Not only is there a keyword index, but the whole reference section is filled with helpful cross-references to help me find what I need simply and completely.

As mentioned above, this book is categorized in the intermediate-advanced level, but if you're a beginner, don't despair! The book, in addition to being a great reference, also contains some very useful tutorials. The first one is "Getting Started With Active Server Pages" and they build from there.

Among the other unusual features: an index in the reference of common tasks and projects a developer might find handy (and cross-references to the helpful sections); page numbers on all references; and HTML, VBScript, and SQL references included.

The combination of reference and tutorial make this book perfect for anyone who wants to be or already is a serious ASP developer.

This review is from: Active Server Pages In Plain English (In Plain English (IDG)) (Paperback)
This book has already helped me with answering my quesrions of how to implement a database using ASP. Besides the mimor annoyances of typos here and there (should have edited better), this book is the one-stop resource for ASP Code

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for any level of developer, November 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Active Server Pages In Plain English (In Plain English (IDG)) (Paperback)
As stated in the other reviews, the book has it all. I am constantly finding myself flipping through the reference it contains. The index for the reference is categorized so efficiently it makes life much easier.

The sample code provided covers many commonly found areas of ASP development, and is self documenting. I am extremely satisfied with the content found within it and would recommend it to developers of any level of experience.
