Book Description

January 1999 1557985375 978-1557985378 1
APA's fourth and latest volume of activities for teaching psychology contains a wide range of enjoyable and instructive exercises that emphasize active learning. Each of the 80-plus exercises is described in a cookbook format that allows the instructor to quickly see the concept underlying the activity, materials needed (if any), and class time required. Contributed by psychology teachers nationwide, the activities are appropriate for introductory courses at the college or high-school level, yet many are also applicable to more advanced classes. Both beginning and more experienced teachers will appreciate the variety of teaching approaches, which include demonstrations, experiments, discussions, and simulations. The activities are grouped by topic and cover critical thinking, research methods and statistics, biopsychology and animal behavior, sensation and perception, learning, memory, cognition, emotion, development, human diversity, social psychology, personality, and psychological disorders.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lifesaver for first time teachers, August 7, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Activities Handbook for the Teaching of Psychology (Paperback)
I recently taught Introductory Psychology for the first time, and this book was a great help in designing my course. For each area of psychology, I chose activities from this book to illustrate key concepts. Every activity that I tried went over well with my students.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must For Anyone Who Teaches Intro Psychology, January 25, 2000

(REAL NAME)
Dr. Benjamin has compiled the book every teacher of introductory psychology needs. Full of activities designed to spark interest and understanding of basic psychological concepts. High school students will appreciate the psychology more when they can actively participate. The book will show students psychology as science, not hocus-pocus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative and Fun!, July 17, 2007
This review is from: Activities Handbook for the Teaching of Psychology (Paperback)
This was an excellent resource for my high school Psychology course. This book offers a variety of ideas for all of the major areas studied in an introductory psychology course. There were some great ideas/games that I used as demonstrations at the beginning of class to grab their attention. For example, we played the "hot and cold game" to demonstrate operant conditioning, as well as the "telephone" game to demonstrate aspects of memory. The students enjoyed the ideas this book had to offer, and I had fun doing it with them! The Activities Handbook for the Teaching of Psychology is an absolute NECESSITY for any teacher of psychology.
